350.org is looking for a communications professional committed building the climate justice movement in the Pacific.

The role of the Pacific  Communications Coordinator is to develop and execute communications strategies for 350.org’s regional campaigns  through direct (digital) and indirect (media) communications work , as well as to implement regional communications strategies in alignment with global communications objectives. The Pacific Communications Coordinator will use relevant regional media moments to promote narratives and outputs aligned with campaign goals and strategies to raise the voices of local communities that have been affected by climate change, and that are fighting for climate justice.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Media relations: identify relevant media contacts, cultivate relationships with regional journalists, and further develop and maintain media contact lists
  • Media materials: develop media materials such as press releases, media packages, as well as multimedia materials where possible/relevant
  • Media engagement: monitor media, identify digital and media opportunities and engage with issues relevant to 350.org’s work and the broader context
  • Media strategies: develop and implement strategic media and digital communications plans for specific campaigns and regional events
  • Media support and trainings: support and encourage the media work of 350.org network, national campaigners, and local groups in region
  • Internal collaboration: collaborate departmentally and interdepartmentally to develop alignment between 350.org’s global and regional communications
  • Public Engagement: support and represent 350.org’s overall mission in public venues or other networks
Skills/Experience: 

Required Qualifications: minimum qualifications necessary for a candidate to move forward to the next step of the screening process

  • At least three (3) years of experience in media relations and communications in the region
  • Knowledge of the regional media landscape and strong media contact networks
  • Working knowledge of the current global debates on climate change and climate justice and strong interest in working on these issues

Preferred Qualifications: desired, but not required, skills and experiences

  • Experience working remotely
  • Experience working in nongovernmental organization or nonprofit sector
  • Experience with data collection and media analysis
  • Experience in audience engagement through digital channels, including through email-lists.
  • Professional experience and competency working in an international environment and in multicultural groups
    • Experience working and living in multiple countries
    • Multilingual
  • Able to travel internationally on occasion
  • Proficiency in Meltwater, CiviCRM, Airtable, Google Suite, Slack, and Zoom or similar systems

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and in remote teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proactive mindset.
