The Oshkosh Community YMCA has an exciting opportunity for someone to join our staff team as the Financial Development Director. This position will provide leadership to the association's total financial development efforts. Individual will have relative experience in annual campaigns, capital campaigns and endowment development. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and be able to represent the YMCA professionally in the community and with individual donors. This position is responsible for coordinating all efforts to manage and direct an effective financial development program.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Direct all efforts to manage and direct an effective financial development program.
- Cultivate, manage and expand the endowment program and all Heritage Club events.
- Identify, develop and write proposals for grants from government sources, private trusts and foundations.
- Maintain comprehensive and current donor profiles.
- Work with the CEO, staff and volunteer leaders to identify, recruit and challenge community leaders to take on responsibilities for acquiring funds for the organizations development needs.
- Maintain and cultivate relationships in the community with business and civic leaders, donors and YMCA board members through donor visits. Interpret the wok of the Association and enlist their interest and support.
- Develop and direct the comprehensive financial development plan of the Association.
- Provide the leadership and overall vision of all donor recognition activities of the Y assuring that all donors are appropriately recognized individually and via public events.
- Provide staff leadership and management of volunteer committees related to the development department.
- Provide overall leadership to direct the business administration and software support to fundraising activities assuring an accurate data base and reports, timely billings and collections.
- Represent the YMCA locally, regionally and nationally, both inside and outside the organization.
- Operate and develop development budget.
- Assure own professional growth through reading, study and conference attendance.
- Give presentations to community groups about YMCA programs and fundraising opportunities.
- Work with Marketing Director to develop marketing and promotional resources for the Y as it relates to financial development.
- Exemplify the Y values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILTY in all aspects of job and relationships with others.
- Understands, supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and role in the community as the leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, financial development, communication, public relations, human services or equivalent work experience is preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Experience working with volunteers and knowledge of nonprofit organizations and donor centered fundraising principles is required.
- The incumbent must have a proven ability to relate to top community leaders and to recruit and stimulate their participation and motivate to participate in securing financial support.
- Must know how to plan, recruit and train volunteers to raise funds; have knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles; must be able to organize donor records to identify, strategize and cultivate support.
- Must also be able to create interpretive materials that enable prospects to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its purpose.
