The Development Director will manage the development and implementation of the Central and North Florida Chapter's Walk campaigns. As a member and leader of the comprehensive development team, they are responsible for the growth and development of the chapter's twelve (12) Walk to End Alzheimer's events.  They will have primary supervisory responsibility for the Walk Staff Partners for the twelve (12) Walks and work with them to recruit, train and manage high level volunteer planning committees to lead the Walks in their respective communities.  They are also responsible for the cultivation, development and retention of existing and new corporate partnerships in those territories.

This position is based in Longwood, FL (Orlando) and reports to the Vice President of Development.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Achieves current revenue targets of $1.7 million and expense budgets for the twelve (12) Walk to End Alzheimer's events with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget
  • Ensures achievement of the Chapter's 5 year walk revenue plan and any other benchmarks set by the VP of Development.
  • Develops and follows a comprehensive development plan for the Walk events that includes budgets, timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development, marketing/PR and logistics.
  • Supervises and manages Walk to End Alzheimer's staff partners for the Walks in the Panama City, Pensacola, Destin, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Gainesville, Ocala, Daytona, Cocoa, Flagler/St. Johns and The Villages.
  • Conducts on-going correspondence, training, coaching of Walk staff as it pertains to Walk to End Alzheimer's and building corporate partnerships.
  • Collaborates with the Chapter's Corporate Initiatives team to develop a new network of high level contacts for the chapter and form new corporate alliances and partnerships.
  • Ensures that the Walk to End Alzheimer's has high level leadership volunteers in place and train, coach and develop Walk leadership volunteers to reach goals.
  • Ensures Walk volunteer committees are recruited, trained and developed on the National Walk to End Alzheimer's timeline and utilizing best practices, resulting in the attainment of income and team goals.
  • Works with the volunteer planning committee to organize outreach activities that promote the Alzheimer's Association mission and services, including community presentations and corporate engagement opportunities.
  • Promotes employee education sessions in local corporations in the community to generate awareness for our cause; to reach out to others; to give back to the corporate sector; and to open new doors for sponsorship opportunities.
  • Assures compliance with Alzheimer's Association policies, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Other assignments as requested by the Vice President of Development.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years proven track record of revenue and expense budget management
  • 5+ years demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and coach volunteers in a fundraising environment preferred
  • Progressive leadership experience in fundraising and corporate partnerships.
  • Proven track record of strong special event fundraising performance with year over year growth
  • Must have experience with staff, volunteer and project management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of large events preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and fundraising software, Convio and social networking programs
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer leadership recruitment, training, and management
  • Ability to think strategically and execute plans to completion
  • Experience cultivating relationships with corporate executives
  • Highly effective organizational, communication, negotiations and interpersonal skills
  • Appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity, especially with respect to outreach efforts
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet needs of the job
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively within the territory (up to 40%) as needed for the jog, primarily by car though occasional air travel may be required
  • Must possess access to reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, transport, and setup a variety of materials related to Walk to End Alzheimer's (weighing up to 25 pounds)
