The Alzheimer's Association, serving Orange County, provides a variety of education, information and support services to persons with dementia, their families, health care professionals, and the community.  We are looking to hire a Program and Education Specialist who will be primarily responsible for coordinating and conducting educational programs, care consultation and caregiver support groups in the community to raise awareness, provide Alzheimer's/dementia education and support to individuals living with dementia, key friends and family, and the general public.  The Program and Education Specialist will also utilize volunteers to increase program delivery and support services throughout the territory.  This includes the recruitment, training, support and management/supervision of volunteer community educators and caregiver support group facilitators.  This position is bilingual English and Spanish.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Successfully demonstrate and independently carry out the delivery of the chapter's core services as determined by the Portfolio of Common Programs and chapter work plans. Core services include, but are not limited to, information and referral, care consultation, support groups, caregiver education, professional training, and outreach.
  • Effectively Plan, schedule, market and deliver Association Core Services in English and Spanish.
  • Conduct timely and effective promotion and outreach on behalf of the organization, with a focus on increasing awareness of and promoting care and support programs.
  • Track, evaluate and manage chapter wide education classes and events.
  • Identify and meet the needs of diverse communities and populations.
  • Conduct outreach and education with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers and interns.
  • Represent the chapter at appropriate and assigned meetings and events.
  • Assure compliance with all Association policies, procedures, Standards and applicable regulatory and grant requirements; promote Association wide programs and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in social work preferred or  health care related field: psychology, counseling, nursing, gerontology, public health or related.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three years experience in community outreach, conducting education programs, health care guiding, coaching, and supporting individuals and their families.
  • Remains knowledgeable and current in information related to Alzheimer's and related dementias as well as national, state, and local initiatives that affect the targeted population.  
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people including persons with dementia, family caregivers, corporations, foundations, and volunteers.
  • Experience in volunteer management and support.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills when working with internal and external clients.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the Chapter area with some evening, weekend, and overnight travel required.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
