General Summary

The Alzheimer's Association, serving Orange County is looking to hire a Community Outreach and Education Specialist to be responsible for the delivery of education programs in the community; volunteer engagement; and community outreach.  Additional responsibilities include:  recruit, train, and place volunteers in program activities to increase our program delivery and support services throughout the territory; outreach and health fair management; and management and supervision of education and program volunteers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plan, schedule, market and deliver Association community and family education programs, support groups, conference presentations, information and referral and other trainings and activities as needed.
  • Conduct timely and effective promotion and outreach on behalf of the organization, with a focus on increasing awareness of and promoting care and support programs.
  • Identify and meet the needs of diverse communities and populations.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers and interns to deliver common programs, physician and medical outreach, and other program duties.
  • Outreach and health fair event coordination:  Identify key health fairs and other event activities that increase the Association's visibility in the community; recruit, train and manage volunteers to staff these events.
  • Represent the chapter at appropriate and assigned meetings and events.
  •  Assure compliance with all Association policies, procedures, Standards and applicable regulatory and grant requirements; promote Association wide programs and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in community outreach, volunteer management, and conducting education programs
  • Remains knowledgeable and current in information related to Alzheimer's and related dementias
  • Demonstrated skills in communicating to different constituents, professionals, families and the community
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Computer: Microsoft Office Suite and database management experience required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  •  Access to a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of insurance
  •  Ability to travel regularly throughout the Chapter area with some evening, weekend, and overnight travel required.
