This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Member Engagement Specialist works collaboratively with membership and program teams to provide members and participants with the best experience through detailed analysis and communication.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y as well as on the phone, email and online communication, contributing to member retention.
  • Conducts interviews and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; may attend recruitment fairs and other external events; sells memberships.
  • Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA; facilitates member challenges and incentives in conjunction with other leaders.
  • Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or un-resolved issues.
  • Engages with members and the community through various outlets which may include promotional campaigns and initiatives as well as managing social media and website for the branch.
  • Works Welcome Center shifts weekly.
  • Leads assigned special events or member engagement services hosted at the YMCA.
  • Applies all YMCA policies while facilitating with member services.
  • Enhances efficiency through program and membership audits, reporting results to leadership.
  • Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least one year previous experience in customer service and/or sales preferred.
  • Previous sales and/or retail experience preferred.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software and social media outlets.
  • Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention Training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA)
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific trainings.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of 
    the community and successful clearance of background check.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $11.00 - $13.00
