The Clarion County YMCA is seeking an energetic, hands-on professional to fill the position of Program Director.

The Clarion County YMCA is seeking an energetic, hands-on professional to fill the position of Program Director. This position is full-time and will supervise all program operations at the YMCA including a special emphasis in Aquatics and/or Sports.

Under the direction of the Branch Director and Executive Director, the Program Director will coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operations of the aquatics center and other program areas according to experience and skill set.

Primary job responsibilities are leading, developing and maintaining high quality YMCA programs. The Program Director will also supervise, provide leadership, instruction and motivation for aquatics staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, as well as provide swim instruction and lifeguarding as necessary. Program Director will create a safe and positive atmosphere which promotes member safety, engagement and satisfaction. Finally, they know and exhibit the YMCA Mission through programs that strive for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 

All program directors are expected to perform the following activities. Duties specific to the program area follow and other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities—Directly supervises part-time and non-exempt employees and volunteers.
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Recruits, trains, and develops non-exempt and part-time program staff and volunteers.
    • Plans, assigns, and directs staff and volunteer work.
    • Conducts performance appraisals, rewards and discipline.
    • Monitors and updates all required staff certifications;
    • Addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model in to all program activities.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Organizes and schedules program registrations.
  • Reviews and processes program scholarship applications.
  • Compiles program statistics.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Coordinates use of branch facilities for program activities and events.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.
  • Assists in branch fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
Educational Background: 
Minimum Bachelor's degree from college or university in Health & Fitness, Education, Physical Education, Community Wellness or related field.
Skills/Experience:

  • Language Skills—Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills—Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability—Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Required Certifications

  • One to two years related experience and aquatics background preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Current American Red Cross CPR, AED and First-Aid Certifications
  • Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification (preferred)
  • Current Swim Instructor Trainer Certification (preferred)
