This position will direct membership promotion, retention, sales, events and marketing activities. Create, coordinate, and implement membership sales efforts, marketing plans, membership loyalty plans, and retention plans. Direct the marketing and public relations efforts, manage public and media relations for internal and external marketing.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves complaints, questions, and concerns with care.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, directs, provides back up, and evaluates staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association mission, goals and strategies.
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
- Ensures proper implementation of member services center procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff. Coordinates with the administrative office as necessary on financial transactions.
- Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA. Creates quarterly new member promotions.
- Recruits and solicits corporate memberships to businesses in the community.
- Keep accurate records on membership numbers, statistics and retention reports.
- Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
- Provides administrative support to the Associate Executive Director and program staff.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
- Develops expertise in the YMCA brand, including standards on voice, messaging and graphics. Acts as the Association’s brand coach, helping all staff members communicate our cause.
- Assist in managing and maintaining the Y’s website by ensuring that our messages and image are professional, interactive and effective in communicating our products and services. Work with department and program directors to ensure that local Y pages are current and copy reflects consistency through the site as we communicate to multiple agencies.
- Establishes contacts with media representatives; writes and submits press releases when appropriate.
- Update and maintain print marketing materials, member communication pieces and templates as needed including monthly newsletters, program brochures, internal branch marketing pieces and promotions.
- Maintains updated files of YMCA’s media relations (both press and electronic)
- Assist in supporting association activities and events where appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, human services, recreation, business related field, plus two or more years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Two or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA
- Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations and program development/management
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with membership recruitment/retention programs
- Excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills
- Strong leadership and excellent customer service skills
- Ability to set the standards for and model exceptional member service and build a culture of member involvement and engagement in all staff
- A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work creatively and independently or as part of a team
- Sound judgment and decision making as well as problem solving and interpersonal skills to relate to people of all socio-economic levels and diverse background.
- Ability to provide facility tours, travel locally to meetings and stand for many hours at a time
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database software, and Adobe products
- Demonstrated expertise in the concepts, practices and procedures related to the fields of marketing and communications
- Demonstrated expertise in website content management systems and web analytics tools
- Attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex ideas into coherent, compelling case statements and communications materials
- Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- CPR, First Aid & other program specific certifications required upon or after hire
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
