Context: Develops and guides implementation of strategies and programs that support communities transitioning to 100% renewable energy. Coordinates with Sierra Club Ready for 100 campaign capacities, Sierra Club Chapters, and other Sierra Club clean energy campaigns to ensure strategic alignment of campaign goals and effective execution of the campaign plan in target geographies. Represents the Sierra Club to government officials, allies, the media, other organizations, and the public.
Scope: The Ready for 100 Senior Campaign Representative is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of resources, tools, and networks that enable Ready for 100 communities to implement a just and equitable transition to 100% renewable energy. The Senior Campaign Representative is responsible for supporting local Ready for 100 teams of staff and volunteers, ensuring successful implementation of their campaign goals, and leading robust collaboration across Sierra Club Chapter staff and volunteers, partner organizations, national campaign staff, and other Sierra Club clean energy campaigns that are working on related campaign outcomes. Ensures strategic alignment of campaign with local, state, and national campaign priorities. Takes appropriate action to ensure that program goals and objectives are met. Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities. Contributes to developing long-term national campaign strategies and priorities. Position provides leadership, promotes participation, and reports on campaign effectiveness to assigned National staff.
- Develops and implements campaign plans, goals, and objectives to support successful progress and implementation of community-wide 100% renewable energy commitments. Coordinates with Sierra Club’s Environmental Law Program, Chapters, Communications Department, Organizing and Digital Organizing Capacities, other Campaigns (ie Beyond Coal), Political Team, Sierra Student Coalition, Sierra Club’s Environmental Justice, Labor, Partnerships Programs, and volunteer leadership to ensure the success of local and state-wide Ready for 100 campaigns.
- Develops and advances Ready for 100 local, state and federal energy policy positions in accordance with organizational policy and equity values. Ensures the Sierra Club is regarded as a significant leader by the media, key decision makers and donors. Ensures that such policies are accurately advanced by volunteers and organizing, lobbying and legal staff in various decision making fora.
- Helps local campaigns successfully achieve their local Ready for 100 goals and objectives. Plans and implements research, tools, reports, webinars and events that support and strengthen the network of local Ready for 100 campaigns that are working to transition their communities to 100% clean energy. May meet regularly with city staff and public officials to support ambitious city action and advancement of 100% renewable energy targets.
- Collaborates with the Ready for 100 leadership team and other Sierra Club clean energy campaigns to identify new threats and opportunities for the Campaign to play a significant leadership role. Provides professional expertise and training to support staff and volunteers.
- Follows the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing and ensures that volunteers assume meaningful roles in the program/campaign.
- Coordinates media outreach activities related to the campaign/program. Serves as a Campaign spokesperson to media outlets and promotes volunteer media exposure.
- Writes, edits, and reviews educational and advocacy materials.
- Introduces creative ideas and approaches for consideration.
- Handles miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned.
- 5-7 years experience as a clean energy or energy democracy campaigner or advocate or comparable position which includes substantial experience planning and managing grassroots conservation campaigns, including strategy, grassroots organizing, lobbying, media, working with volunteers, budget planning and management and work with political leaders.
- Expert knowledge or experience within the renewable energy field, public policy centered in social equity, and city planning processes that integrate social equity considerations.
- Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated public speaking and media presentation ability.
- Substantial experience and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
- Extensive travel required.
- Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
