Finance Manager - .5 FTE

Reporting to the President and the Vice President, the Finance Manager leads the day-to-day accounting & bookkeeping function for the organization.  Primary responsibilities include: accurate and timely production of monthly/quarterly annual financial reports; proper maintenance of accounting records and accurate processing of financial transactions Finance manager will also be responsible for the administration of a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), particularly those principals specific to non-profit organizations and grants management.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Primary responsibilities:

  • Supervise in-house and outsource accounting staff in the performance of their duties.

  • Work with outsource accountant in the completion of accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, Income statement, and budget to actual reports.

  • Manage, oversee, process (as appropriate), and act as backup for processing the following transactions: accounts receivable and payable, revenue and expense, fixed assets, cash, bank reconciliations, and periodic cost allocations. 

  • Administer US-based payroll, using various tools and partnering with Paychex payroll.

  • Manage grants financial reporting and coordinate with related staff to ensure compliance with any grant restrictions.  Track and report on actual performance of contracts against budget.

  • Develop and maintain a reasonable methodology for allocating shared costs amongst both program areas and funders. 

  • Work with management staff to prepare annual budgets and other forecasting tools.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and controls that are current best practices related to transaction processing; update current accounting policies and procedures manual.

  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.

  • Suggest improvements in processes to increase organizational effectiveness.

  • Prepare materials and provide information requested by outside audito; supervise the completion of the annual audit.

  • Oversee bank accounts 

  • Attend meetings in person as requested.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years of experience in a financial management role with supervisory responsibilities

  • Experience with accounting for nonprofits under a 501(c)3 exempt status, particularly in the area of cost allocations over multiple funds and programs

  • Proficiency in collaboration and delegation of duties

  • Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills with impeccable multi-tasking abilities

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.

  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members and external partners.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and sound decisions regarding time-sensitive communications.

  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.

  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.

  • Forward-looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.

  • Positive proactive “can do” attitude.

  • Strong follow-up skills

  • Able to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Quickbooks Online

    • Access to a smartphone

Compensation/Benefits: 

This is a .5 FTE position with an 1.0 FTE salary range between $93k - $100k.
