Context: Plans, coordinates, and executes media strategies for assigned national-level issues and campaigns. Provides coordination and support for the media team.
Scope: Coordinates with campaign, communications staff, and volunteers to plan and execute media strategies. Researches and writes press releases, blog posts, speeches, and other media communications. Organizes press conferences and other media events. Pitches stories and develops relationships with reporters. Trains staff and volunteers in communications strategy and relevant skillsets. Coordinates paid media campaigns. Provides coordination and support for the media team.
- Plans, coordinates, and executes media strategies for assigned issues and campaigns, working closely with Communications Manager, staff, and local volunteers.
- Researches, writes, localizes, and edits communications materials for assigned national—level issues and campaigns, including press releases, web content, op-eds, etc.
- Works with communications and campaign staff to develop and incorporate media messages, strategies, and plans to help the Sierra Club win on our issues, including organizing press conferences and other media events.
- Provides media training and coaching for staff, volunteers, and coalition spokespersons.
- Conducts media outreach and pitches to reporters, producers, and other media professionals; establishes and maintains contact with media professionals.
- Coordinates paid media campaigns with Creative team, vendors, and campaign staff.
- Builds media lists, tracks, and provides analysis of media coverage; provides added coordination and support for media team members such as maintaining department-wide subscription and login credentials.
- Maintains professional expertise by attending job-related training programs in the field of media and communications.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- 2 years prior experience as a reporter, journalist, media liaison, or other type of communications position.
- Fluency in Spanish and English preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of conservation and environmental issues and political landscape.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.
