Managers of School Operations play a critical role in a summer school site’s operations. They plan and execute all systems within the summer school building to support corps members, staff members, and district partners to build a strong culture. Managers of School Operations ensure that the school site runs smoothly so that corps members can focus on their students’ learning and their own development. They are driven by the desire to create smart and efficient systems, enabling others to succeed. This role requires high levels of organization and lateral management to ensure all members of the school team (including students and parents) have the tools and information they need to be successful.
The Team
More than 400 corps members, 1,600 alumni, and dozens of staff members from TFA national teams call the Bay home, making for a collaborative, supportive environment that encourages the out-of-the-box thinking and innovative spirit the Bay is known for. Our main Bay office is in downtown San Francisco, but our community teams work extensively in the four communities we partner with—San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, and San Jose—and work out of their respective satellite offices. We cannot achieve our long-term vision of unleashing the potential of every teacher without re-examining their entry point to our movement and we can’t achieve these new heights with our students unless they have a very different start to the school year. Primary Responsibilities
Develop and oversee operations, data, and logistical systems at the school site in order to maximize school-site efficiency (60%)
- Support the Site Director by designing, developing and managing systems (such as curriculum distribution and attendance), protocols, and procedures to maximize school-site efficiency
- Create, manage, and train staff members and corps members on school-wide duties and systems
- Manage the school-based resources to maximize operational efficiency and corps member development
- Gather, reflect on, and analyze data to pursue school specific goals and benchmarks
Cultivate strong partnerships with school administration, advisors, students, families, corps members, and staff in order to coordinate their efforts on campus (30%)
- Actively build culture by creating project plans to implement events and activities that align to the institute vision for culture
- Create and execute plans to assure the school site is aesthetically pleasing, easy to navigate and that the data and student work are displayed throughout the school
- Execute a plan for both staff and corps member communications at the summer school site and facilitate communication between the school site and the university site
Assisting with general institute support, including clerical, administrative, logistical, and manual tasks (10%)
- Collaborate with on-site Teach For America staff and school administrative staff to create systems to ensure that student and corps member needs are met
- Work with corps members and staff to problem-solve immediate logistical challenges
Requirements
Prior Experience
- One or more years of professional/teaching experience
- Experience in operations and implementing complex organizational systems

- Ability to maintain strong personal responsibility and sense of possibility in times of high situational challenge
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and problem solve in high-stakes, fast-paced environments

Work Demands
- Available full-time from June 9–July 28 (during the application process you will be prompted to note any conflicts)
- Ability to attend ALL staff conferences on February 10, March 10, March 31, April 21, May 19, June 9
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary starting in February for spring training
- Ability to move boxes, set up and break down items, especially during special events
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required
