In addition, our youth programs provide a nurturing environment for children and offer positive, fun activities that build athletic, fitness, social and interpersonal skills.

We are seeking an Executive Director for our vibrant and pioneering Downtown Oakland YMCA branch with emphasis on health and fitness, membership growth, youth swim lessons, youth sports and annual campaign. This Y is primed for the next stage of development in all aspects. This position will report to the Vice President of Healthy Living and will be responsible for managing the total operations of the branch, which include strategy, leading effective staff and advisory board members, annual campaign and a high focus on growth orientation.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In partnership with the Association, lead the strategy for membership growth at the branch through innovative program development and strategic capital improvements.
  • In consultation with the VP of Healthy Living, establish 3 to 5 key strategic goals for the branch and each program area.
  • Lead branch capital improvement projects in collaboration with the Association, architects and contractors.
  • Reports to the Vice President of Healthy Living, in outlining the staff organization and related personnel for each operating year.
  • Employs all staff; reviews deployment and effectiveness of employed personnel; identifies individual goals objectives; observes individual performance; appraises its effectiveness.
  • Carries primary responsibility for all staff development; provides training programs for new and current personnel through personal contact, special courses, conferences, and staff study projects
  • Interprets and communicates the mission, objectives and programs of the YMCA of the East Bay to members, participants and the community.
  • Directs office and support staff personnel in the performance of their respective responsibilities
  • Administers the Branch budget and is responsible for income production to maintain a balanced budget
  • Directs the annual Branch Support Campaign
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree from four‑year college or university
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to lead budget preparation and program planning within a budget operation size of $5M
  • Excellent communication skills
Compensation/Benefits: 
  • Full-time, exempt salaried position
