Job Title: Associate Campaign Director, Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign

Supervises: Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign Representatives
Location: Oakland or Washington, D.C.
Context: Plans, directs and manages all aspects, including strategic planning and staffing of assigned activities, for national initiatives and campaigns of the Beyond Dirty Fuels campaign, in support of the overall objectives that have been established by the Campaign Director. In coordination with the Campaign Director develops, refines and implements national strategies, meeting the established campaign goals, and evaluating campaign effectiveness at the national level.
Scope: The Associate Director has overall program and staff management responsibility, and provides experienced management and strategic planning for the campaign initiatives as assigned by the Campaign Director. Works with the Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign Director to facilitate strategic and tactical planning for various aspects of the Campaign. The Associate Director represents the Sierra Club and the Campaign as a spokesperson.
Job Activities:
- Ensures full and effective coordination of all national level campaign work with the organizing department, communications, partnerships, digital strategies, federal policy, environmental law program, volunteer activist networks, chapters and volunteers.
- Helps the Beyond Dirty Fuels and Our Wild America Campaigns embody a culture of justice, equity and inclusion by designing campaign plans and standard practices with these values at their core. Analyzes issues of national importance and collaborates with other campaign staff and volunteer leaders in formulating and implementing campaign strategies.
- Provides coordination, oversight and tracks progress towards outcomes for various components of the Beyond Dirty Fuels campaign.
- Plans and develops projects for grant funding, handles personal contacts, solicitation and on-going relationships with specific foundations involved with the projects. In cooperation with the major gift fundraising staff, participates in major donor personal solicitation and cultivation, and foundation solicitation and relations
- Works to develop and ensure that the chapters assume meaningful roles in the campaign.
- Serves as supervisor by providing and ensuring general and technical guidance; preparing and conducting performance reviews; making salary, hiring and promotion recommendations; assigning work and establishing priorities, ensuring staff training, development and enhancement of employee skills.
- Supports and provides senior level professional expertise to staff and volunteers.
- Introduces creative ideas and approaches for consideration.
- Assists the Campaign Director in preparing and reviewing campaign materials for donors and funders.
- Represents the Sierra Club and the Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign as a spokesperson.
- Handles miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill:
- B.A. / B.S. degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science or a closely related field or equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the planning and management of environmental or other types of grassroots campaigns that involve organizing at the local and/or regional levels. Demonstrated effectiveness in the planning, oversight, and execution of campaigns.
- 2-3 years prior demonstrably successful supervisory experience.
- Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience raising and managing funds.
- Prior experience and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
- Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
