The part-time Alumni Organizer will play an essential role in strengthening the alumni culture that we seek to cultivate in Oakland. In this role, you will work on a team to build a stronger, more connected alumni community that is deeply invested in the Oakland education landscape. You will plan and lead alumni events, build relationships and facilitate connections, and use data and systems to monitor progress against goals. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about building strong communities. You have an eye towards details and project management. You are motivated by creating inclusive spaces for alumni gatherings and leadership development. Lastly, you are invested in Teach For America-Oakland’s vision for school change in Oakland. The role will be around 10-12 hours a month with a $2000 yearly stipend.
Serve as a “project manager” for a portfolio of alumni experiences (50%)
- Designed, manage, and execute a series of alumni experiences (social events, learning events, community events) that seek to build community and connection between our alumni
- Track and monitor progress against collective and individual goals
- Use systems for team accountability around recruitment and outreach for strategies that support planning and execution
- Participate in a biweekly (twice a month) PLC meeting with other Alumni Community Organizers to set and execute the vision of our work, receive ongoing training, share and receive best practices, and check-in on progress to goal
Serve as a “culture-driver” and “community builder” for our growing alumni base (50%)
- Be a model for the culture that we want to have in TFA-Oakland, demonstrating our values and holding others to that standard
- Effectively communicate with diverse audiences and share the narrative around our alumni priorities in Oakland
- Attend and promote TFA-Bay Area in Oakland events that are relevant to our alumni base
- Recruit alumni into leadership pathways in Oakland (for example, pathways offered from LEE, New Leaders, TFA, etc.)
Work Commitment
- Participate in two bimonthly meetings from August 2017-May 2018
- 10-12 hours/per month (meetings, outreach, execution, etc.)
- Attend events hosted by the Alumni Organizers team
- Maintain strong ongoing communication with TFA Bay and Oakland staff members
- Attend any additional training meetings and ongoing staff meetings (will likely be very limited)
