Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, the Health & Wellness/ Fitness Director has the overall responsibility for all aspects of the fitness department including administration and finance, program development, staff management and supervision, training, certification, safety and risk management, volunteer management, facility operations, and implementation of the mission through the fitness department and its programs.

This position will be a full time -exempt position working Tuesday thru Saturday- 11 am to 7 pm.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Develop, implement and oversee all fitness programs, including but not limited to enhance fitness, group fitness classes, personal training programs, youth sports to ensure we meet the needs of our members and the community while achieving association operating objectives
  • Develop and maintain Annual Department Budgets
  • Establish and implement Departmental goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate all Department classes, program schedules and registration.
  • Maintain and enforce high safety standards.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate department staff.
  • Maintain National YMCA standards or above for all programs, material and staff certifications.
  • Assist with Association Special Events.
  • Ensure that department facilities and equipment are maintained in good working order.
  • Order departmental supplies.
  • Process and approve departmental time sheets.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled department staff meetings.
  • Maintain a professional and motivating environment within the department
  • Attend all professional staff meetings and trainings.
  • Lead and/or assist with assigned volunteer committees.
  • Continuously evaluate programs to ensure current trends and needs are being implemented and met.
  • Assist with Association marketing program.
  • Complete any duties assigned by supervisor deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the YMCA.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in physical education or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years experience  managing group fitness, health/wellness programs
  • Knowledge in all areas of fitness/ health & wellness, marketing, program development
  • Required certifications:
    • ACE (or similar) Personal Training Certification 
    • American Red Cross CPR/ First Aid/ AED Certification
  • Working knowledge of managing staff and organizing, facilitating youth sports/ camps
  • Ability to lead/instruct fitness classes

Required Certifications

  •  American Red Cross CPR/ First Aid/ AED Certification
  • Must obtain YMCA Enhance Fitness instructor certification within 6 months of employment
