The South Shore YMCA is now hiring a Director of Health and Well-Being for its Quincy, MA location! Bring Your Passion to our Misson!

The Director Health and Well-Being is responsible for the management of the entire Health & Well-Being Department, both Member engagement and Programs. This individual will have a focus area on the coordination of new member orientation, member engagement and community awareness of Medical Wellness programs. This individual will be accountable for member engagement and healthy living retention initiatives. This includes but is not limited to the leadership of member service as it relates to Health & Well-being and community health initiatives. Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a team that is focused on providing superior service at all times.

Areas of Responsibility: 

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

  • Oversees and works directly with Director of HWB Program Engagement and Personal Training to ensure quality of programs fit the needs of our membership and community.
  • Working together with the Membership Director will develop and implement cause driven tours and manage member comment cards.
  • Create and establishes new member intake system as well as leading the floor staff on member engagement.
  • Directs and supervises service activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Works within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Helps to foster a climate of innovation to develop preventative health-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals and strategies.
  • Maintains all medical wellness programs and continues to develop new opportunities.
  • Tracks record for all medical wellness programs and participants.
  • Continue to represent the YMCA at events, conferences pertaining to medical wellness.

STAFF & VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

  • Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, schedules, and directs floor staff, medical wellness program along with volunteers as it relates to department.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff and volunteer performance and quality.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff in member engagement.
  • Alongside the Membership Director will cultivate a strong connection between Membership and Health & Well-being staff
  • Develops and directs high-quality relationship-based member engagement strategies for staff and volunteers.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members and the community.
  • Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

  • Builds relationships with and among members and prospective members. Responds to inquiries and uses proper problem-solving skills to bring solutions to any member services issues. Creates a supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.

BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Plans and manages related department budget as approved in a fiscally responsible manner.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT

  • Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT

  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities/events and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University in exercise science or related field is required;
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years of experience with member service, membership development, health promotion, budget development & management, and staff supervision; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience developing, designing, implementing and evaluating health & wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Some experience leading a cross-functional work team.
  • Strong organization skills in all aspects of the departments especially in regards to program and staff scheduling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the make up of work outs for members at all levels & abilities; youth through seniors as well as people with disabilities.
  • Technically proficient with the Microsoft office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, athletes, parents, volunteers, community partners and members are critical to this position. Effective teaching skills, the ability to deliver excellent customer service, and a high level of enthusiasm are required.
  • ACSM or ACE certified is required.
