The South Shore YMCA's Natural Science Center located in Norwell, MA is now hiring a Director of Environmental Education and Camping!
The Director of Environmental Education & Camping is a cause-driven, mission-oriented leader dedicated to educating, exciting and inspiring every generation to preserve the environment and to encourage responsible use, stewardship and enjoyment of our natural resources.This individual will be responsible for the oversight of environmental education programs, Nature Adventures Camp, SSYMCA’s Family Farm and volunteerism for the South Shore Natural Science Center. This work will include program development and management, staff management and resource development for program support.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Responsible for resources (curriculum, living and non-living collections) and collateral(written/digital/web-based) to support programs. Tracks, evaluates and reports on programming and enrollment. Recruits and books school and community programming. Assists in grant writing and oversees the implementation, execution and reporting of all SSNSC educational grants.
STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of required staff certifications are current and complete.
MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause. Leads outreach efforts to local organizations to market educational program offerings. Manages contact database.
BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Plans and manages department budgets as approved in a fiscally responsible manner.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT
- Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are clean, safe, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive. Program facilities include, but not limited to, EcoZone, trails, gardens, animal care building, collections, and SSYMCA Family Farm.
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
- Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations, especially schools, in order to strengthen support and build community.
- 5– 8 years of work experience in environmental or science education;
- Experience in innovative program development
- Experience in grant writing and management
- Experience in staff management and/or non-profit leadership
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
