Senior Program Director for School Year Programs

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Program Director for School Year Programs oversees the major program modes offered in Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons through the recruitment of groups and schools; recruitment, hiring and development of staff; and year-round sales, marketing, and fundraising to support the growth of Fitch’s School Year Programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruits, develops, and evaluates School Year Program staff and volunteers to build them into creative, capable, and passionate leaders who execute dynamic and high-quality experiences during the school year. Although this position is accountable for primary leadership of the School Year Programs, close collaborationwith the Senior Leadership Team is expected.
  • Teams with the Senior Program Director for Summer Camp to develop a unifying culture across all of Fitch’s program modes that exemplifies Camp Fitch’s Core Values: Servant Leadership, Empathetic Listening, Vulnerability-Based Trust, and Growth Mindset.
  • Creates a sense of urgency for staff surrounding innovation and improvisation. Coaches and provides tools for staff to innovate and customize experiences for campers. Balances the pursuit of innovation with supporting our culture of safety and quality. 
  • Implements strategies that support recruitment of new groups and retention of returning groups. Creates an individual-focused culture within these groups, and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate empathetic listening to resolve problems that ensure group satisfaction.
  • Partners with volunteer organizers/leaders of school-year groups to develop custom experiences that meet            specific group needs (consistent with Fitch’s mission and operational capabilities). Secures funding for low-income campers in the group. Mines for mission-aligned ways that Fitch can support overall group goals.
  • Builds connections and partnerships to enhance growth across all program modes. Organizes outreach and ecruitment events with community partners to increase visibility, partnerships, and drive the growth of school year programs.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for School Year Programs and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Provides necessary reports as needed including, but limited to, board reports, tours, enrollment and financial assistance.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the Fitch for All Initiative (our Annual Fundraising Campaign) with an emphasis on School Year Programs.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five years of experience in customer service and staff supervision/management. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Five years of experience as a Director leading resident camp programs.
  • Personal commitment to servant leadership and core YMCA values.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments  of the community.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Attain required training within 90 days, CPR/O2/FA, New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens.
