The Development Director will provide leadership, oversight and strategic direction to the Association's Mass Market/Special Event campaigns which are aligned with the Association's mission and strategic plan. The Director will create and implement an annual development plan focused on facilitating and increasing the organization's unrestricted year-over-year revenue growth by: identifying, recruiting and stewarding high-level volunteer leadership, developing corporate partnerships and increasing community engagement.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provide management level leadership, oversight and implementation of Mass Market/Special Event campaigns, including the Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day and the Reason to Hope Fundraising Breakfast, as well as corporate engagement.
- Participate in the development and implementation of the annual strategic plan for the Chapter, with an emphasis on the identification and cultivation of Mass Market/Special Event fundraising prospects to initiate new and maximize existing income streams.
- Manage corporate relationships to include securing new event sponsors, increasing commitment from existing sponsors and ensuring benefit fulfillment for the Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day and Reason to Hope Fundraising Breakfast.
- Identify, cultivate and manage high level volunteers to develop an effective and "cause-dedicated" pool of committed and trained individuals, including strong chairs to lead all special events planning and implementation.
- Supervise, develop, evaluate and support Event fundraising staff to create a cohesive, collaborative and synergic development team culture, within the local chapter and across the region.
- Represent Chapter at public and media events an in all communications with current and potential donors to build understanding for the Alzheimer's Association – Its research role, programs and services.
- In coordination with Communications Specialist, develop marketing strategies, to include utilization of local media, to promote and increase special event awareness, visibility and participation.
- Act as direct Association liaison for all third party events. Ensure completion and compliance of third party agreements.
- Assure compliance with all Association policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; promote Association-wide programs and initiatives. Ensure proper preparation and timely submission of reports as requested and required.
- Perform those additional duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director to maintain efficient operations.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in a non-profit field, or sales/marketing; CFRE preferred
Skills/Experience:
- 5+ years of proven leadership experience in Mass Market/Special Events
- Strong track record in mobilizing community volunteers to engage in fundraising efforts, as well as other leadership activities to move organization's mission forward
- Experience in strategic planning, budget development and management
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
- Successful experience in supervising and supporting fundraising staff and volunteers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and proven project management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proficiency with Internet and database/fundraising applications, preferable Convio/Luminate
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, early morning and occasional weekends
- Ability to travel extensively in Chapter territory, as well as occasional overnight travel
- Valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance and access to personal vehicle to meet travel requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
