In alignment with the mission of the YMCA, the Sports Director is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, expansion and evaluation of youth and adult sport programs. The principle objective will be to develop meaningful programs and services in order to fulfill the YMCA’s mission. The Sports Director reports to the Senior Program Director.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth and adult sports programing within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Responsible for all Strategic Planning and Operations within the Sports Department:
- Customer Service and Human relations skills with general public, membership and staff
- Fiscal Management: Overseeing sports department operating budget, purchasing equipment, program supplies
- Leadership: Supervise and Schedule of employees including: Assistant Sports Directors, Sports Coordinators, Facility Monitors, Instructors, Program Assistants, Referees, Volunteers, Event Coordinators, Seasonal Staff, Counselors, Contracted Personnel
- Recruitment, background check, training & supervision of volunteers
- Responsible for administering payroll
- Organization: Coordinating all aspects of Youth & Adult Sport Programming. Responsible for trophy day, training and orientation of coaches and officials, scheduling for all sports programs.
- Marketing: Maintenance of promotional tools; program guide, web maintenance and member and camper database.
- Facilities Management: planning, scheduling and managing sports and programs.
- Supervise gymnasium, indoor track, and New Balance Track and Field facilities including all staff and program participants
- Maintain and ensure equipment and facility safety
- Create and implement comprehensive facilities schedules
- Program Development: create and implement comprehensive Sports curriculum.
- Advance Mission through the negotiation of contracts, development and implementation of new and existing programs.
- Willingness to accept responsibilities other than those assigned.
Educational Background:
B.S. or equivalent in Physical Education, Community Recreation or related discipline.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years recreationalexperience.
- Proven results with experience in building and implementing sport programming.
- Experience in creating budgets and reforecasting.
- Experience with coaching sports to youth groups of 6-25 individuals.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic
- segments of the community.
- YMCA Team Leader or working toward same.
- Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification.
- An understanding of the needs of the communities served by the West Suburban YMCA.
- Represent the West Suburban YMCA in a positive manner.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $45,000.00 - $49,000.00
