The WSYMCA is searching for our next dynamic team member to continue the mission of our organization with a Resident Camp Director.
The Camp Director is responsible for planning, operating and implementing a safe, innovative and high quality program for all attending resident camp. The Resident Camp Director is responsible for growing camp enrollments and revenue to further the YMCA mission. The CFAD Director has the opportunity to live in YMCA housing at Camp in E. Brookfield as part of this position. This position is responsible to carry out the mission and values of the West Suburban YMCA at Camp Frank A. Day.
- Work closely with the YMCA Association office staff to successfully execute the annual marketing, financial development, human resource and financial goals of the camp as well as the association through working collaboratively.
- Work closely with the association registrar with registration process, assisting with phone calls, billing, payment plans, refunds and collections.
- Lead Resident Camp Committee volunteers in support of committee goals.
- Manage communication (new camper welcome packets, recruitment, marketing, survey, newsletters, social media).
- Plan, Schedule and lead on-site camp events and projects as needed.
- Weekly and Monthly Statistic/visual enrollment trackers. Provide weekly, monthly reports and analysis as scheduled.
- Hiring and training all domestic and international Camp staff. Complete all paperwork (collection, recording, submitting to HR, communication with Staff per West Suburban YMCA policy.
- ACA point person (ensuring all paperwork is submitted to ACA, scheduling visit, keeping camp accreditation up to date).
- Board of Health and ACA Licensing - Follow established health and safety standards of the YMCA, ACA and Dept. of Public Health.
- Responsible for control of the Camp Frank A. Day budget, and must maintain proper documentation for all purchases and expenses for camp.
- Develop and maintain records essential for control, evaluation and reporting. Includes following financial procedures for the Association.
- Along with association leadership staff, develop achievable budget for operations and necessary capital budget to achieve goals.
- Assist with camper and staff recruitment by attending camp fairs, home visits, and community events.
- Recruit campers and work on filling camp to capacity.
- Attend monthly meetings of community groups in CFAD area (East Brookfield region).
- Continue building a strong alumni support group, engaging them in events, fundraising and advocacy.
- Prepare year-end camp report based on personnel, campers and your own observations/suggestions/concerns.
- Drive off-season revenue opportunities, including off-season rental groups to include hosting, check-in and check-out.
- Prepare, review and authorize WSYMCA CEO sign off of all contracts and agreements. (Rentals, Vendors etc.)

Camp Season:
- Assume responsibility for camp program & scheduling
- Coordinate pre-camp program preparations (i.e. hiring, training)
- Assume full responsibility of summer camp operations.
- Ensure all staff are following and enforcing all rules as well as fulfilling all expectations and their assigned duties.
- Directly supervise all unit staff and assist them in meeting goals. Evaluate all program staff. Plan & provide atmosphere of high staff morale.
- Implement the WSYMCA’s safety and risk management strategies.
- Routinely evaluate the effectiveness of all programs and staff to meet the mission of the YMCA.
- Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to all campers and staff.
- Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors and the general public at all times.
- Capable to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring First Aid and CPR.
- Implement the philosophy and policies governing the operation of camp in cooperation with the West Suburban YMCA’s policies and procedures.
- Work with specialists to develop camper schedules, curriculum and lessons plans.
- Support and implement healthy menu and philosophy.
- Arrange camp transportation for international staff, field trips, etc.
- Responsible for consistent correspondence and communications to camp families.
- Work within budget to plan activities and purchase required supplies/equipment.
- Recommend changes in program, structure, administrative procedures, facilities, or policy, which you feel would benefit the camp.
- Further develop a robust LIT program to create a pathway for future counselors and staff.
- Communicate issues and problems as they arise to your supervisor.
- Handle discipline and behavior problems as necessary, in accordance to the Association policy and procedures.
- Work to ensure a positive experience for all campers.

Staff Responsibilities
- Responsible for all personnel, including interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating and terminating (if necessary) of all camp staff.
- Supervise facility director.
- Responsible for collection of all necessary employee paperwork.
- Prepare camp and staff manuals and conduct staff training and orientation.
- Oversee scheduling of staff.
- Ensure final performance evaluations are conducted on all staff at the end of the season.

Facility Responsibilities:
- Schedule and execute the opening/closing of camp grounds and buildings annually with facilities director.
- Ensure all facilities and grounds clean, maintained and safe during camp season.
- Ensure that camp is completely inventoried at the end of the season.
- B.S. or equivalent in recreation, education or a related discipline.
- At least 25 years old.
- Prior camp staff experience in a supervisory role for at least five years; camp administrative experience for at least two years.
- Ability to take initiative, be highly organized, effectively communicate, and manage groups.
- Strong record of program planning and implementation.
- Desire and ability to live and work in a camp setting.
- Good role model, high integrity and level of professionalism, and adaptable.
- Capacity to recruit, train and supervise staff.
- Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
- Ability to relate effectively and compassionately to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Exceptional skills in human relations, budgeting, sound fiscal management, financial development, program management and staff development. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to think and act quickly and safely in emergency situations.
- Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications.
