The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This person helps to build the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact across multiple channels in our service area with focus on driving engagement through social media platforms. He/she will be responsible for developing, implementing and tracking effective marketing and communication strategies and campaigns across multiple departments. Helping to build the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact, he/she provides assistance to the Director of Marketing & Communications to implement the Marketing Plan and advance the West Suburban YMCA’s mission. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops editorial calendars/communications plans for the marketing campaigns for YMCA membership, development, summer camps and Programs in line with department/organization goals.
  • Manages social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn. 
  • Creates & publishes brand relevant content across all social media platforms to increase WSYMCA social footprint and drive engagement.
  • Builds and nurtures a devoted online community through the execution of timely response for all social media inquiries.
  • Reviews Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, Google Analytics and Instagram Analytics and other applicable social tools to produce monthly traffic and engagement reports, evaluates and refines content strategy based on analytics, and reports recommendations regularly to the Marketing & Communications Director.
  • Assist with the ongoing maintenance of WSYMCA website and WSYMCA App.
  • Finds online news sources and posts to local event calendars to increase media coverage and event interest as appropriate.
  • Keeps pace with SEO, search engine, social media and internet marketing industry trends and developments
  • Establishes relationships with all local media in our service area to ensure the most effective messaging and positioning of the WSYMCA.
  • Create and deliver press releases, newsletters, email marketing campaigns.
  • Develops effective working relationships with internal department groups, community organizations and companies. 
  • When appropriate, supervises interns and volunteers placed in the marketing department through our internship and volunteer program.  Which could include coordinating schedules and weekly check-in meetings to make sure goals are being met.
  • Assist with the coordination and planning of YMCA special events. 
  • Participate in association special events throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years of professional marketing/communications experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience with social media management tools (Hootsuite) and email marketing tools (Constant Contact) is preferred.
  • Strong writing, grammatical and editing skills.
  • Ability to generate creative ideas.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, website platforms and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $36,500.00 - $40,000.00
