The Member Engagement Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The primary focus of this position is shaping and cultivating the member experience through the development of exceptional member service and Child Watch/Kid Zone programing. This position will manage all aspects of member service and engagement for the Newton YMCA; including the recruitment of new members, retention and engagement of existing members, and the development of a high quality member service staff team. The Membership Director will be responsible for developing strategies, relationships and goals to achieve membership growth.
This position will also assist the Associate Executive Director in shaping the future community engaging strategies which will lead to increased membership, greater member satisfaction, higher retention and a better understanding of the YMCA’s culture and philanthropic roots.
- Sets the vision and implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and image at all times.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members.
- Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone and walk-in registration.
- Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
- Develops, manages and implements the approved budget for membership and child watch.
- Ensures proper implementation of Welcome Center procedures. Reviews and implements updates member service procedures.
- Ensures proper implementation of Child Watch/Kids Zone procedures. Reviews and implements updates to child watch and kid zone procedures.
- Coordinates with the Finance Director as necessary on financial transactions.
- Helps to organize membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA as a cause driven organization.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Prior experience in customer service, knowledge of a member relations database and experience supervising (hiring, training and coaching) employees is required.
