Under the supervision of the Senior Operations Director and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Child Care Director is responsible for planning, administering, staffing and evaluating all preschool and child watch programs.  He/she must abide by the requirements set by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) to ensure a safe, fun and developmentally appropriate environment for program participants and staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Participate in promoting YMCA membership through assisting in the recruiting and retaining of members. 
  • Prepare and administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
  • Actively participate in association task forces, committees and/or leadership team to promote Branch unity. Serve on childcare leadership team. 
  • Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Support, Capital and United Way Campaigns.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate the work of all assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Plan curriculum, monthly calendar, and lesson plans for all preschool and child watch programs including enrichment, service learning, character values, field strips, special events and wellness activities into daily schedule.
  • Maintain relationships with members, program participants and partner agencies through verbal and written communications and strive to encourage the growth of membership participation.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings as well as required quarterly and annual trainings.
  • Attend PTA, community meetings and community events on as needed.
  • Develop a volunteer parent advisory committee to maintain and evaluate programs, as well as plans special events.
  • Wear staff uniform and nametag, or professional attire when appropriate.
  • Follow department Platinum Standards.
  • Maintain accurate records to include but not limited to, participant files, attendance sheets and rosters.  Ensure staff certifications are up to date and current 
  • Stay current informed with up-to-date childcare issues in the state and community.
  • Provide leadership to the branch in the areas of VDSS and USDA to ensure compliance in all childcare areas. 
  • Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the childcare department and branch operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience required; core competency and course work required per the Virginia Department of Social Services Licensing Standards.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three years experience supervising staff, developing programs and working with children and parents preferred.  
  • Proof of a negative TB test within the last two years.
  • Medication Administration Training (MAT) Certification is required.  Training will be provided upon hiring.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL within the first 6 months of hire.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, sex offender registry check, and child protective services check.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$34,296.00 - $38,000.00
