Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA Association Facts:
The Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA is committed to strengthening the foundations of the communities it serves through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Since its beginnings on March 3, 1896 volunteers and staff have worked to meet the needs of a large, diverse service area.
The Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA is located in the heart of the Tidewater area of Virginia. The service area stretches for 120 miles and encompasses three peninsulas:

The population of the region, though working at an abundance of different jobs, mainly support the massive amount of military inhabitants.
• The Middle Peninsula lies between the Northern Neck and the Virginia Peninsula. This Peninsula is bounded by the Rappahannock River on the north and the York River on the south, with the Chesapeake Bay to the east. It encompasses six Virginia counties: Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, Mathews, and Middlesex. It is boater's paradise of beautiful waters, miles of coastline with deep water creeks offering sheltered harbor, and a full range of marine services. This is also a region of gently rolling farmland, horse farms, and scenic drives.
• The Northern Neck is the northernmost of three peninsulas (traditionally called "necks" in Virginia) on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and includes the counties of Lancaster, Richmond and Northumberland. Here you can sail, fish, cruise, explore history, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.
