The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the accounting systems of the Association. Seeking a leader who can oversee current financial operations and assist in identifying new opportunities for funding & revenue development.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assures that all association program and financial databases are kept current and accurate; assures that association billings are produced and mailed according to schedule.
- Assures that association membership, program and financial reports are generated as required and distributed to all department heads.
- In compliance with the fiscal management policies of the association, supervises the accounting department to assure timely and accurate recording of all financial data, following generally accepted accounting practices.
- Hires, trains, supervises & evaluates the Association Accounting Coordinator, the Accounting Coordinator and the Program Billing Coordinator.
- In cooperation with the auditors, assures that:
- Approved internal control processes are followed.
- Accounting staff are complying with proper bookkeeping procedures.
- Year-end financial reports are completed by auditors according to governmental organization specifications.
- Fiscal Management:
- Oversees the association budgeting process & addresses any problems with department heads as necessary. Responsible for maintaining budget information in the computer system.
- Through the Finance Committee, develops strategies to fund capital & expansion projects.
- Responsible for reconciling development data.
- Monitors and ensures that investment funds are properly used & managed according to fund policies.
- Acquires funding for various expansion and capital need projects and manages debt load according to association goals and objectives.
- Conducts annual cost study which provides valuable planning information for each department or management area.
- Develops pro forma budgets for potential projects as needed.
- Oversees periodic internal audits.
- Maintains complete and accurate files of all expenses and revenue transactions and cash disbursements of the Hunterdon County YMCA affiliation (Deer Path & Community).
- Is familiar with all aspects of Daxko reconciliations & features and performs these functions on all accounts on a timely basis.
- Develops a monthly payment schedule within the limitations of cash flow; prepares cash disbursements for CEO approval as needed. Prepares disbursement reports as required.
- Develops strategic financial goals for the association and incorporates into operations.
- Provides computer support and functions as backup in all business office areas.
- Responsible for Investment Funds management.
- Serves as staff officer to the Board Finance Committee.
- Regularly consults with and works cooperatively with other department heads and supervisors to forge a strategic partnership with Finance. Interacts positively with members, volunteers and community leaders.
- Serves as a member of the Association’s Senior Management Team.
- Attends trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
- Along with the President & CEO, serves as a Y representative to the Association’s banking institutions.
- Participates on staff committees as requested or necessary.
- Assures that all staff under the incumbent’s supervision and all supervisory staff understand and comply with all personnel and other policies developed by the Board of Directors and professional staff. As a member of the professional staff, share responsibility for the administration of the overall Association.
- Supports and participates in Association initiatives according to Association criteria. Partners with other departments or outside agencies as appropriate to ensure success.
- Builds relationships with other staff and members; encourages staff and members to build relationships with other staff and members and join in the YMCA movement.
- Facilitates and guides the teaching of the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in our YMCA programs. In addition, models these values personally.
- Maintains discipline with children during all activities under the guidelines of the Hunterdon County YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
- Follows all Hunterdon County YMCA policies and procedures.
- Carries-out all aspects of the current strategic plan relative to his/her position.
- Participates in Association-wide activities and events.
- Represents the YMCA in appropriate professional organizations and committees.
- Represents the YMCA positively within the community and maintains membership in a community organization.
- Keeps the President/CEO & Board Finance Committee apprised of matters requiring their attention.
- Performs other job-related duties as requested or necessary.
Educational Background:
Minimum of a baccalaureate degree in accounting, business management or related field from a 4 year accredited college or university.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in an upper level accounting management role.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in supervision of staff. Supervisory skills required to oversee the activities of department staff under his/her supervision and the ability to enlist the collaboration of other staff when needed.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in administering and ensuring data integrity of a comprehensive Accounting System.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state accounting/financial regulations.
- Proficient in accounting software packages and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and purpose of the YMCA.
- Must be able to delegate day-to-day operational responsibilities as required.
- Excellent human relationship skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to observe confidentiality.
- A professional personal image and the ability to work harmoniously with staff, members and the business community are imperative.
- Must possess a valid driver license and meet the requirements of our insurance company's driver selection criteria.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $72,000.00 - $85,000.00
