Under the guidance of the Senior Child Development Director, the Child Development Director oversees the development and operations of before and after school enrichment (BASE). The incumbent is responsible for recruiting, training and supporting one full time staff; the BASE Program Coordinator and all BASE part-time staff. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the overall planning, promotion and day to day operations of Western’s BASE programs. Oversees the coordination of special events and activities associated with these programs.
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and the YMCA.
  • Develops and manages budgets for all program areas. 
  • Hires, trains, supervises and coaches staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  • Maintains staff/child ratio a set by State of Delaware licensing regulations and ensures qualified substitutes as necessary.
  • Responsible for annual licensure of all program sites, ensuring regulations are consistently met at all sites. Responsible for maintaining Delaware Stars Quality Level in program sites and ensuring that operations are consistent with Stars Curriculum. Recommends any necessary program changes that will more effectively and efficiently improve our program quality and safety.
  • Maintains consistent, continuing, and accurate communication with Senior Child Development Director concerning program concerns, supplies, schedule changes, staffing, participant concerns and other pertinent information.
  • Keep accurate records essential for control and evaluation of all programs.
  • Utilizing SEER statistical data together with personal experience, measure the degree to which existing programs are meeting the needs and interests of participants and the Branch, making appropriate recommendations and changes when necessary.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in education, human services, social services, recreation, or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency. The incumbent must possess an extensive background in supervision of staff and discipline and education of children, in addition to good management skills in planning, organizing, staffing and directing programs.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate flexibility of leadership and the personality to deal with a variety of people.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others. The position requires a high level of human relation skills, as well as, parental and child interactions. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $44,600.00 - $50,200.00
