We are looking for a talented and skilled user experience professional with either a background in User Interface or Interaction design or strong skills in this area to design, sustain and improve the applications that help fuel the movement to eliminate educational inequity. As a User Experience Designer on Teach For America’s UX team, you will work collaboratively across teams to create new and transform existing interfaces grounded in user needs. You will also be responsible for designing, prototyping and articulating UX to partners and implementation teams. This position reports to the SMD, User Experience Lead.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Guide partner teams along the User Experience process including them when relevant in the design process.
  • Articulate, conceptualize and realize high quality, cross-platform solutions (desktop, tablet and mobile) at different stages in multiple product life cycles.
  • Imagine, sketch, wireframe, prototype, and design interfaces, as well as other design artifacts as necessary to communicate UX concepts and solutions without losing sight of the flow between interface elements.
  • Iteratively design, prototype, and test intuitive interfaces from requirements.
  • Design and implement research plans for new and existing products, working collaboratively with both business stakeholders and product users.
  • Perform multiple UX methods from user interviews, usability tests, and analysis of user behavior to wireframing and diagramming across Teach For America's product spectrum.
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate findings across diverse teams.
  • Educate and empower partner teams to adopt a user-first mindset by acting as a UX Ambassador.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required.
Degree in human-computer interaction, design, cognitive science, psychology, architecture, or other related field is a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2+ years of experience designing products, apps or websites.
  • Experience working with Invision, Sketch and Zeplin (alternatively, experience with Axure RP, Balsamiq, Omnigraffle, Adobe XD/Suite products or other similar wireframe and design tools, with a desire to learn to use Invision, Sketch and Zeplin).
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methods, practices, and related tools.
  • Has experience working collaboratively with project teams, openness to feedback, a positive attitude, and the ability to be flexible in the face of changing priorities and requirements.
  • Strong understanding and practice of methodologies such as - but not limited to - usability testing, prototyping (multi-fi), contextual research, conducting interviews, task analysis, card sorting, survey design, personas, journey maps, Information Architecture documentation, wireframing (multi-fi), as well as visual design best practices. 
  • Strong sense of design with a clear understanding of functionality, interaction, and user interfaces.
  • Keen sense of what makes a good user experience professional and a commitment to living out those ideals.
  • A passion for working within a small committed team of UX designers who cover all parts of the UX process from research through implementation.
  • Strong time management, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates Teach For America’s core values.

Work Demands

  • This position is located on site in our national office in New York, NY.
  • Occasional travel may be required (1-4 times per year).
