The Payroll Analyst is responsible for performing a wide variety of payroll activities, including ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. The Payroll Analyst is responsible for processing the bi-weekly payroll for portfolio salaried and hourly employees in a fast-paced, high-volume transactional work environment. The candidate is responsible for analyzing all payroll data entered in the system by external teams that have an impact in our employees' paycheck, and ensuring compliance in tax withholding and adherence to TFA employment policies. The position requires a highly organized, responsive and flexible candidate that has the ability to handle multiple projects while producing accurate and timely results.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Operation Management (75%)

  • Manage and analyze own portfolio for all payroll-related transactions submitted via the system’s workflows for completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization
  • Ensure all payroll-related tasks within own portfolio are complete in an accurate and timely manner to produce accurate bi-weekly payroll including off-cycle check processing
  • Analyze errors and discrepancies in payroll output to determine root cause and advise external team to take appropriate actions
  • Calculate and record salary adjustments as necessary
  • Ensure state, local and school district taxes are set up correctly in payroll system
  • Audit state compliance rules for employees’ claiming state withholding exempt status
  • Maintain well-documented and well-organized payroll records, including the processing and maintaining of withholding orders        
  • Research and correct payroll errors to include balance adjustments and manual check processing for over/under payments
  • Process off cycles, termination pay, direct deposit and reversals, stop payments and other payroll payments
  • Perform audits related to local tax and direct deposit set up
  • Run and modify reports to help in data audits for data that requires manual work

Team Customer Service Support (25%)

  • Resolve pay inquiries by clarifying staff questions/issues, determining the cause of the problem, selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem, expediting correction or adjustment, and following up to ensure resolution
  • Research and resolve complex inquiries, seek solutions and follow through on complex tasks
  • Work closely with Human Assets, Finance and Accounting departments as well as other departments as needed to research issues
  • Handle non-routine situations to meet department guidelines, procedures, policies and best practices
  • Assist in semi-annual Workday regression testing
  • Assist with audit date collection
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in a business related field or comparable experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 – 4  years multi-state payroll experience
  • ERP/In-house payroll system experience preferred

Skills

  • Strong data analysis
  • Must have advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, formulas and pivot tables)
  • Working knowledge of payroll practices, auditing and procedures
  • Understanding with multi-state taxation
  • Working knowledge of payroll processes including timekeeping, tax withholding setup, gross up calculations and general ledger posting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to build and maintain a high level of customer service
  • Must work effectively as an individual contributor and team member
