Operations and Budget Manager

The Budget and Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations responsibilities of a large and growing communications department, with an emphasis on budget management. Other areas of work will include but not be limited to contracts, staff training, and internal communications. This is a new position created to ensure the smooth functioning and budgeting of the Communications Department. The Operations Manager will work closely with colleagues in HR, Finance, Accounting, and Development, among other areas. In addition, the Operations Manager will work with external vendors and partners as needed and in relation to contracts, procurement, and budgeting issues.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Streamline and manage the annual expense budgeting process for Communications.
  • Oversee income and grant management for the Communications department—tracking, reporting, and managing all Communications Department income.
  • Produce regular reports on expense tracking; develop systems for regular reporting on budgets to managers and throughout the Communications Department.
  • Create templates and other tools to allow for a consistent system of budget management throughout the department.
  • Train others on budget management systems and processes to ensure a net of strong budgeting and tracking throughout the department.
  • Act as point person within the Communications Department for reporting on financial management, including writing grant reports, writing/reviewing new proposals, and tracking income.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of business contracts and negotiations.
  • Vendor management skills.
  • Budget management skills.
