New York, NY, USA
Full-time

At the Rainforest Alliance, we are building an alliance to create a better future for people and nature by making responsible business the new normal. To advance our mission, we focus on amplifying our impact on the ground through systemic transformation: change across the entire supply chain, change in the relationship between people and nature, and change within our own organization. We achieve this transformation by working in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to create a stronger Alliance. Together, we amplify the voices of farmers and forest communities, improve livelihoods, protect biodiversity, and help people adapt to climate change in bold and effective ways. We embrace transparency because we believe that the best way to build trust across our alliance is through openness about our tactics, our impact, and partners on the ground. Together, we can achieve our vision of a world where people and nature thrive in harmony.

Position Summary:

The Manager, Stakeholder Engagement for Global Programs will contribute to two innovative Rainforest Alliance initiatives to foster sustainable supply chains and rural landscapes at broad scale: 1) the Accountability Framework initiative (AFi); and 2) the Landscape Standard (LS). S/he will be an integral part of both initiatives’ teams and contribute by: 1) carrying out consultation processes to ensure that user needs and perspectives are built into the design and functionality of these initiatives and their respective tools; and 2) driving broad adoption of these tools by key private sector actors and other stakeholders.

Areas of Responsibility:
  • Engage with key private sector actors (particularly supply chain companies, financial institutions, and industry groups working in agriculture, forestry, and potentially other sectors) and other stakeholders to socialize, consult, and gain feedback during the development and application of the AFi and LS.
  • Work with the AFi and LS project teams to incorporate user perspectives into the design and development of both initiatives – particularly regarding market demand, use cases, and business-facing tools – to ensure these initiatives fulfil key business imperatives and drive sustainability outcomes.
  • Promote uptake of the Accountability Framework and LS by market actors in different contexts (e.g., different supply chain stages, commodities, and regions) according to each initiative’s use cases.
  • Train and support colleagues in other Rainforest Alliance divisions on the AFi and LS to ensure effective stakeholder engagement related to these initiatives across the organization.
  • Help ensure that the AFi and LS are developed to provide compelling use cases, tools, and value addition to market actors and other target users.
  • Engage with key companies within the target groups to secure and follow through on commitments to adopt or utilize the Accountability Framework and/or LS.
  • Work closely with the full AFi and LS teams from Rainforest Alliance and each initiative’s respective partner organizations, including international and region-based colleagues.
  • Engage closely with private companies and other priority stakeholders to socialize, consult, and promote adoption of the Accountability Framework and LS.
  • Collaborate with the Rainforest Alliance Markets team and other divisions to foster effective complementarity of sustainability tools and strong coordination of stakeholder engagement.
  • Co-develop and implement uptake strategies for the AFi and LS based on each initiative’s key products and tools as well as its place-based pilot activities.
  • Conduct business development for the LS through a range of effective channels, including bi-lateral engagement with companies, promotion at conferences and events, and other communications mechanisms.
Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communication, or a sustainability-related field (e.g., natural resource management, forestry, agronomy, or social sciences); Master’s degree preferred;
  • At least five years’ progressively responsible experience working with (or within) private companies to develop and implement sustainability initiatives;
  • Proven record of success in securing company commitments or executing company initiatives to participate in projects, programs or services to advance sustainability objectives;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the agribusiness sector and/or financial institutions that invest in agriculture or other land-based projects;
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to organize complex concepts into logical frameworks;
  • Superior English written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including a proven ability to persuade through effective communications;
