Manager, Corps Operations

As the Manager, Corps Operations, you will be responsible for building the first critical and enduring relationship with our incoming New York City corps members to ensure they have a strong and positive initial experience with the TFA program, which lays the foundation for their entire TFA experience. You will own all communications and messaging with incoming corps members, and will track their progress in getting ready to join us for summer training. From the moment they receive their offer to join our corps, you will ensure that all incoming corps members are eligible to teach by the first day of school, feel supported throughout the pre-service process and are fired up to join the New York Corps.

You will also be responsible for supporting current corps members to complete the necessary actions to remain in good standing with TFA, their partner school, and their graduate program at Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay). This includes: survey collection, certification updates, and communications regarding TFA-NY events. Through management and execution of regional strategies, the Managers of Corps Operations impacts corps culture and retention, alumni engagement, and overall  community building – all in support of our regional vision around stability in schools and communities.

A successful candidate will value and enjoy the challenge of building relationships with hundreds of individuals around the world, and thinking critically about finding opportunities to support corps members within process and protocol. You have an ability to anticipate problems, excel at crafting inspiring and compelling written messages, and bring empathy and care for our incoming corps members. The Manager, Corps Operations will report to the Director of Corps Operations and work closely with colleagues across the Programs team and the New York region.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Pre-Service Execution (60%)

  • Create tracking systems and communications that ensure all corps members have the information and support they need to be hired, certified, and eligible to teach. Including subgroups of incoming corps members who required specialized information and support
  • Execute a robust corps member pre-service program that communicates our regional vision and expectations, and maximizes the time between when a corps member confirms their acceptance to the corps and when they begin institute. Including tracking collection of “action items” corps members must submit to be certified and hiring eligible
  • Oversee graduate school enrollment to ensure all corps members are enrolled with our graduate school partner, the Relay Graduate School of Education, in order to obtain certification
  • Create and deliver webinars to invest incoming corps members in TFA mission and core values, TFA-NY regional vision and goals, and ensure they understand what it means to part of TFA as well as a NYC teacher
  • Support, coach, and retain incoming corps members during the pre-service phase of their commitment to ensure they are the most successful they can be to be in front of kids come the first day of school
  • Start to develop incoming corps member knowledge, skills, and mindsets about what it takes to be a transformational teacher with an eye towards TFA’s mission, our NYC regional vision, and our focus on Culturally Responsive Education (CRE). (In conjunction with the Director, Program Design)
  • Manage the incoming corps member email inbox and respond to corps members as needed. Write clear and compelling communications and guidance for incoming corps members that inspire them to action and ensure they successfully navigate their pre-service commitment

Current Corps Operations (30%)

  • Support current corps members in maintaining “good standing” through communications and data collection, and support of current corps members through survey campaign, certification updates, and communications about events
  • Execute a survey campaign strategy to ensure we receive feedback from corps members throughout their two-year commitment
  • Define report card strategy to ensure corps members are knowledgeable about their corps status during their two-year commitment
  • Respond to inquiries from current corps members, alumni, and other stakeholders as needed
  • Manage all corps communications (in conjunction with Director, Communications & Marketing)

All-Staff Expectations (10%)

  • Participate in all-staff (region and organization-wide) activities and events such as selection, confirmation, strategic planning and summits
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of work experience, prior experience as a TFA corps member or teacher strongly preferred, but not required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Willingness to work some weekends and evenings
  • Demonstrated ability to generate creative solutions to lead to positive culture
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral) and proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituents in a number of different settings
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to make timely decisions and demonstrate good judgment
  • Exceptional customer service orientation, ability to tailor approach for different audiences
  • Agility and willingness to adapt to change, shift course, alter approaches and assume new responsibilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; comfort with various media (video, websites, podcasts, etc.)
