Financial Operations Analyst

As the Financial Operations Analyst, you will oversee the day-to-day accounts payable function from purchase order creation to invoice processing, work with the Director of IT Financial Analysis to manage the financial operations of the Information Technology team, and implement best business practices to ensure alignment of the accounting function with technology business operations. The Financial Operations Analyst will support the monthly review process, prioritize areas of risk and opportunity, assist in relevant discussions with key leaders, and coordinate cross-functional projects as necessary. This role requires strong customer service skills and an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving. You will serve as a critical communicator between IT and TFA’s finance team to ensure IT is adhering to policies and procedures and evolving audit readiness and will ensure alignment of the accounting function with technology business operations. The Financial Operations Analyst position requires an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and is an excellent opportunity to leverage your data analysis and Excel skills to impact the financial outlook of the department.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Operational Tasks (40%)

  • Serve as the primary backup for the Director, IT Financial Analysis as needed
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end and fiscal-end process
  • Prepare purchase order requisitions by ensuring proper coding
  • Serve as liaison to the National Procurement team to ensure all POs are compliant and processed in a timely manner
  • Create and update team documentation under guidance of the Director, IT Financial Analysis
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of IT invoices

Data Preparation (30%)

  • Prepare team monthly reports including GL data dump; prepare prepaid, recodes and accrual schedules for submission to the Finance team
  • Perform ad hoc reporting for the department when needed
  • Assist in the creation of monthly reconciliation reports and variance explanations for the forecast by department and initiative within the technology team

Analysis (20%)

  • Assist with tracking cost overages, savings, risks, and opportunities as well as supporting analysis
  • Assist in budget planning by partnering with team leader
  • Support IT PMO on Resourcing and Forecasting as needed

Process Improvements (10%)

  • Make recommendations for improvement to internal processes
  • Support IT by providing guidance around adherence to Finance policies and procedures
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two to four years of analytical work experience
  • Experience in change management, and workflow and process re-engineering
  • A record of successfully planning and coordinating projects across a diverse group of stakeholders

Skills

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and reporting skills
  • Strong Excel/Google sheets skills; the ability to produce analytical framework in Excel and ability to audit and understand the work produced by others
  • Command of fundamental GAAP accounting principles and the ability to navigate, analyze, and interpret financial statements helpful
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to adapt communication styles and content depending on the audience
  • Strong orientation towards customer service-based leadership and ability to develop trust with client teams
  • Flexible, entrepreneurial approach to solving problems
  • The ability to operate effectively, and with a sense of possibility, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail

Work Demands

  • This position is located on site in our New York National office
  • Limited travel (2 times per year)
