Reporting to and working with the Board of Directors, the CEO helps set and implement the strategic direction and provides internal and external leadership to continually increase KHCC’s impact. The CEO is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission, program goals and financial objectives and ensures the organization’s overall operations are working effectively and efficiently.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Board and Strategic Direction

  • Provide vision and leadership to create, update and implement KHCC’s strategic plan
  • Keep the Board fully informed on the state of the organization and influencing factors
  • Carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board

 

Program Development and Administration

  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field
  • Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work
  • Advocate for and publicize the activities of the organization, its programs, and goals

 

External Relations

  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with agencies, community groups and organizations
  • Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public
  • Establish or maintain relationships with elected officials

 

Financial Stewardship

  • Grow and maintain a robust fundraising/development program and partnership relationships
  • Develop a plan around current financial staff development and evolution of the use of outside financial services
  • Work with Board, staff, and the Finance Committee to ensure continued strong financial controls
  • Ensure that the organization is fully compliant and operates within budget guidelines
  • Proactively ensure maintenance of the relationship with the lender

 

Staffing

  • Responsible for all personnel decisions
  • Attract and retain qualified employees and ensure their continued professional development and growth
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff
  • Ensure an effective leadership team with appropriate provision for succession
  • Maintain a culture that attracts, retains, and motivates a top-quality diverse staff

 

Initial Priorities for the Chief Executive Officer

  • Develop an understanding of the organization’s business model and the needs of the client population KHCC serves
  • Develop relationships with Board, staff, and community partners, including funders and elected officials
  • Diversify funding streams and grow donor base
  • Identify new and exciting ways to tell the story of KHCC’s impact and success
  • Assess programs and staff to identify and address any capacity and space issues
  • Oversee the initiation of the new data system
Skills/Experience: 

Skills and Attributes

Successful candidates will be passionate about the programs and the people KHCC serves and will bring a variety of skills, experiences, and attributes to the organization, including:

  • Visionary and inspirational leadership that energizes stakeholders
  • Five to seven years of executive-level experience in a like sized organization
  • Experience working with federal contracts, government agencies and elected officials
  • Resourceful, opportunistic, nimble, humble, and creative
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic, operational, financial and program planning and evaluation
  • Proven business and financial acumen, with experience developing and managing budgets of at least $10M, as well as demonstrated success in maintaining fiscal stability
  • Demonstrated success at raising funds and developing partnerships
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills, including respect and compassion for others, approachability, gravitas, and comfort in leading difficult conversations when necessary
  • Open-minded, empathetic, and willing to collaborate with staff around new initiatives
  • Willing to roll up their sleeves and participate in organizational activities at all levels
  • Experience advocating on behalf of an organization
  • Desire to experience the organization and its programs first-hand
  • Some connection to the Bronx community and/or political connections in NYC preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred
  • Head Start Training helpful
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Compensation/Benefits: 

The salary range is $180,000 - $220,000, and KHCC offers a benefits package that includes health, vision, and dental insurance, paid time off, a 403(b) plan, and other benefits.
