As a Director of Email Marketing you will develop, build and execute an email strategy that details how the organization leverages email to achieve one or more of its goals: recruit prospects, nurture current corps members, and engage alumni, supporters and other members of the Teach For America network of education reformers. You will act as an expert on Teach For America’s email platform. Your job will involve a high degree of planning, developing, testing, and analyzing email campaigns, as well as working closely with cross-functional and partner teams. You will be responsible for ensuring adoption of best practices for sending, tracking, and optimizing email campaigns and developing solutions that meet communication goals.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create audience strategies and execute on marketing campaigns across a series of organization-wide initiatives
  • Create, clean up, and manage new and existing email user accounts, ensuring each user has the correct access and permissions
  • Understand, support, and optimize the data integration between our email provider and our internal database, helping others to understand the value of data accuracy and completeness for communications
  • Develop email templates and journeys within Salesforce Marketing Cloud that meet the needs of specific users and content needs identified within the content strategy
  • Compile and distribute email analytics and reporting to the Insights and Email teams to ensure that common metrics and send frequencies are regularly reviewed
  • Measure and evaluate email performance on an ongoing basis and use research and data to ensure effectiveness
  • Promote the use of email optimization and A/B testing techniques, pushing the envelope in terms of templates, content, design, formatting, deliverability, and conversion
  • Respond to questions from users around the organization about how to use our email services provider (currently Pardot, though we’re migrating to Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
  • Assist with coaching individual users on general email strategy as well as platform use (content and language, branding, formatting, deliverability, platform interface, subscriber best practices, etc.), responding to questions and proactively sharing best practices
  • Advise colleagues on how to best leverage email as part of multi-channel marketing campaigns that move people to act
  • Monitor industry trends in email marketing and reporting technologies, and make recommendations about improving our email strategy and tools if necessary
  • Advocate for and operate under an agile/Lean UX environment with confidence
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years’ experience in email marketing strategy at a mid-size to large organization
  • Experience in measurement and optimization of email campaigns
  • Expert in the latest email best practices
  • An understanding of marketing and digital strategy principles
  • Experience working with Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Pardot​
  • Passionate about educational equity as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
  • Able to think big, generate ideas and drive solutions to complex problems in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • A strong writer and oral communicator
  • Skilled in the art of persuasion, with a deep sense of humility and openness to the perspectives of others
  • Able to maintain a sense of possibility in the face of obstacles, and balance both short- and long-term results

Work Demands

  • National travel for in-person meetings approximately once per quarter
  • Some weekend and evening work expected
