The Digital Engagement Associate is responsible for engaging a variety of audiences online in support of VoteMama’s mission. The Associate will manage the creation of content for social media, ensuring the content reflects core values around racial equity and diversity. The Digital Engagement Associate will drive and develop organizational content and strategy in all Digital Communications to uplift the organization's vision and brand.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Digital Design 

  • Conceptualize and design graphics for a variety of social media platforms and email

Digital Engagement  

  • Manage and execute strategy regarding VoteMama’s social media

  • Collaborate closely with others to translate policy ideas and research findings  into digital campaigns

  • Coordinate as needed with communications contractors/consultants

Strategy Execution and Development

  • Work with team members to better understand and cultivate an audience to mobilize around VoteMama’s priorities

  • Stay up to date on digital engagement best practices; make changes to documented processes

  • Support excellent cross team collaboration and strategy development 

A typical day

On a typical day, the Digital Engagement Associate will create content and graphics for a variety of social media platforms, support management of the content development calendar, and engage with the Digital team to strategize content and digital communications strategies.

Skills/Experience: 

The ideal candidate for this position is eager to grow in the digital engagement field, specifically content design and management, and you consider yourself an expert at creating compelling content and graphics for social media across multiple platforms with a variety of audiences. The Digital Engagement Associate will report to Amanda MacDonald, Digital and Creative Director.

Required Skills for this Role

  • 2+ years managing social media for an organization or company 

  • Experience planning, writing, scheduling and monitoring content for social media channels

  • Strong command of an organization’s vision and brand, with an understanding of how to adjust tone and scope of information for varying audiences

  • Ability to distill complex information into digestible content to engage audiences around the organization’s mission

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe In-Design, Intermediate knowledge of WIX/web design, experience and Google Workspace, and Google Spreadsheets (Excel)

  • Intermediate experience with graphic design, specifically for social media

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Commitment to Vote Mama’s goals and theory of change, and passion for grassroots organizing and commitment to progressive policy change as well as deep dedication to the mission

  • Must be creative, strategic, collaborative, and organized, with keen attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgment and discretion – with a knack for quickly moving on strategic direction

  • Experience working in a scaling start up and/or a similar mission-driven organization

  • Comfort with using Javascript 

Compensation/Benefits: 

Working at Vote Mama

  • This position is a remote in the DC/NY area and requires travel for in-person events as needed. 

Benefits and Compensation

Salary: $65,000-75,000

Timeline and process: We are accepting applications on a rolling basis and will continue to interview until filled. We are planning for 2-3 rounds of interviews, all between 45 and 60 minutes via Zoom, in addition to a hiring exercise.
