Full-time

We are looking for an experienced copywriter to serve as our lead writer for recruitment-focused marketing content. In this role, your goal is to inform, educate, and inspire prospective Teach For America corps members by creating engaging copy that drives them to learn more about the organization, apply to be a teacher, and ultimately accept their placement in our corps. Your responsibilities would range from campaign work, including taglines and posters, to content marketing pieces, website copy, email, occasional long-form journalistic stories, and more.

As a copywriter, you will be a member of our content team, which includes other writers/editors, and report to our Senior Managing Director of Editorial Strategy. You must be able to juggle multiple projects that are at different stages simultaneously. You must be a creative marketing writer, adept at driving people to action with a phrase or short paragraph, as well as someone who understands digital best practices, including SEO, and can occasionally contribute a long-form reported piece.

  • Plan content strategy for the prospects pod (15%)
  • Participate in brainstorming, planning, and other related projects to further the goals of the prospects pod (10%)
  • Participate in and contribute to the content team, including attending weekly team meetings and team-wide initiatives (5%)
  • Maintain designated areas of the website, which can include: keeping content up to date, creating new content, improving the user experience on pages, ensuring pages reflect digital and SEO best practices (10%)
  • Take on writing and/or content-strategy projects as needed beyond the prospects pod (5%)
  • Participate in meetings, projects, and activities relating to the full Marketing & Communications team (5%)
Skills/Experience:
  • 6-8 years of writing for digital at an agency, publication, not-for-profit, or in a complex corporate context
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment, working closely with a project manager, audience strategist, designer, email marketer, social media expert, and others
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects forward autonomously from inception to completion
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, and to shift gears quickly when needed. Occasional need to drop everything to focus on responding to a news event or other critical need

Work Demands

  • Travel: the copywriter will be expected to take several trips per year for internal meetings, conferences, and reporting stories.
  • Some evening or weekend work may occasionally be required
