We are seeking a talented Content and Communications Specialist to deepen engagement, excitement and connection with The Nature Conservancy, our work and why it matters.  The Content and Communications Specialist is a storyteller at heart. S/he develops content, manages social media accounts and writes and creates a variety of materials for diverse audiences in order to advance marketing and communications goals for the New York Division.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Content and Communications Specialist is responsible for creating, developing and managing content and communications across The Nature Conservancy in New York. S/he has a deep understanding of what resonates with diverse audiences and stakeholders and works in an integrated fashion with marketing colleagues as well as colleagues in conservation and government relations.

The Content and Communications Specialist closely works with the New York Executive Director on organizational communications and updates to New York trustees and other stakeholders. S/he creates and manages board meeting PowerPoints and talking points; writes conservation announcements, updates and other key communications.

The Content and Communications Specialist also develops and manages creative and written content for social media, website and e-newsletter content, advertising and member communications. S/he works with marketing colleagues and conservation staff to tell powerful stories. S/he oversees an editorial calendar to increase visibility and highlights The Nature Conservancy in New York’s priorities across key channels.

S/he may use analytics software to track and analyze performance, report findings and make strategic recommendations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Manages the development of communication tools, delivery of internal and external communications and consistency of key messages
  • Supports the Executive Director and drives organizational communications
  • Manages content, engagement and growth for three New York social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) and manages campaigns to increase awareness and engagement with The Nature Conservancy and our work
  • Develops digital content including but not limited to web stories, social media content, e-newsletters to further our conservation priorities
  • Communicates and coordinates content across departments and business units within New York State
  • Works within a budget to complete a project.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience cultivating and managing client/customer relationships
  • Experience developing communications for Senior Executives
  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading
  • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of word processing, database management and spreadsheet software, with ability to construct and produce reports, use mail merges and advanced functions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic application knowledge of project management principles.
  • Practical application of marketing concepts.
