The Media Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Campaign Associate to help develop HRW’s innovative campaigns and digital work. The Campaign Associate will provide administrative support and contribute to the team working to mobilize HRW’s public audience, philanthropists, and key influencers to advance advocacy priorities. The Associate will join the team developing and implementing both digital campaigns and broader institutional participation in human rights campaigning. This full-time position is based in New York. The Associate will report jointly to the Director of Global Campaigns and the Digital Director and work closely with the Senior Campaigner.
HRW is looking for a strategic and creative digital thinker with who is comfortable navigating digital platforms. This is an opportunity to help innovate additional resources for real world change on the most pressing human rights issues of the day.
- Provide administrative support for the Campaign and Digital teams including scheduling, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings, making travel arrangements, photo procurement, tracking and processing divisional expenses, and maintaining pipelines;
- Conduct web-based research to help identify opportunities for the Campaign team including influencers, strategic partnerships, and issue stakeholders;
- Monitor active campaigns and compile data reporting;
- Maintain archive and active learning documentation for campaigns;
- Conduct user testing for campaigns and engage online with campaign participants;
- Assist with identifying and onboarding new digital tools to optimize campaigns;
- Support HRW social media properties;
- Maintain project management platform and timelines for campaigns;
- Assist with the recruitment and coordination of interns; and
- Carry out other duties as required.
- A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.
- Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to synthesize content for popular audiences are essential.
- Strong initiative and follow-through and the capacity to think creatively and strategically are required.
- Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.
- Experience working on major social media platforms is essential.
- Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure with a broad range of people and as part of a team is required.
- Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.
- Strong commitment to and experience working on human rights are preferred; experience working with non-governmental organizations is desirable.
