The Associate Editor for Conservation Policy is a full-time, digital-first journalism position working within Audubon’s content team to produce editorial for Audubon.org and Audubon magazine. The role will have an explicit focus on identifying smart, timely angles on policy issues affecting conservation and Audubon’s network of bird enthusiasts in particular, though there will be room to pursue other interests within the realm of bird news and science. The Associate Editor will occasionally travel across the organization’s network, including liaising with the policy team in Washington, DC.

- Regularly pitch, write, and edit stories ranging from news updates and explainers to features.
- Interface with Audubon’s policy and communications teams to understand key organizational concerns and priorities.
- Collaborate with Audubon’s art team to execute stories that are highly visual and, when possible, leverage multimedia, data journalism, and other journalistic tools.
- Stay abreast of conservation policies and news important to the public and to the preservation of birds.
- Two to three years of editorial experience at a magazine or media website, with demonstrated skill at translating wonky policy topics into compelling and highly readable stories for a general audience.
- Ability to home in on smart, sharp editorial angles; work quickly but thoroughly; juggle multiple deadlines; and easily pivot between individual and collaborative projects.
- Tech-savviness, including proficiency with CMS.
- Interest in environmental issues, conservation, birds and/or birding.
- Fluency in Spanish a plus.
