The Global Human Resources Division of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Assistant in the New York office to provide administrative support to the team. The Assistant will assist in a wide variety of generalist HR responsibilities. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week starting from March until mid-July 2019.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist with data entry of employee, consultant, and intern records in the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and ensure that all data is entered and accurate; 
  • Maintain HR filing systems and ensure the ongoing integrity of electronic personnel records;
  • Assist with annual performance review process including tracking submission status, scanning and filing documents, preparing handouts, reviewing documents, and scheduling trainings; 
  • Assist with recruiting and onboarding processes including posting positions, conducting outreach, screening applications, responding to inquiries, assembling packets, etc. 
  • Utilize a variety of HR systems, including HCM platforms, recruitment and onboarding modules, document management tools, and electronic signature tools; 
  • Create reports and extract and analyze data from one or more sources in order to provide effective data reporting;
  • Coordinate departmental meetings and organization-wide special events;
  • Assist the HR team on special projects; and
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One year of relevant work experience is highly desirable. 
  • Strong computer knowledge, including Windows, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat Professional, database management, and internet research, is required. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize competing demands with minimal supervision, and handle numerous tasks simultaneously while maintaining a strong attention to detail is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization are required. 
  • Good judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required.
  • Excellent time-management skills are required. 
  • Strong generalist understanding of HR processes is highly desirable.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: The salary for this position will be US $15.50 per hour.
