As, Revenue Accounting Manager, 1 you will ensure that Teach For America is efficiently and accurately tracking and processing all revenue that comes through our Organization.  Last year, Teach For America collected nearly $305 million in revenue all of which was reviewed and processed by the Revenue Accounting team. Your work will directly impact the fiscal health of our organization while maintaining relationships with our regional partners to ensure compliance and understanding with our fiscal regulations. 
Your intrinsic attention to detail, organizational proficiency, knack for learning new systems will ensure that all revenue recorded timely and accurately in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and is tracked appropriately in TFACT, our Revenue subledger and internal cash management system. Your partnership with our development team will provide our regional partners with all-encompassing support to reach their fundraising development goals.  You thrive in a fast-paced environment and easily navigate high volumes of work while maintaining an unwavering eye for data accuracy and quality. This position requires the ability to interact with and inspire diverse groups, including national and regional staff members. You will report to the Director, Revenue Accounting.             

Areas of Responsibility: 

Planning & Operations Portfolio Management (65%):

  • Ownership of portfolio management - Track, review, and process all revenue received by Teach for America through the approval process.  Responsible for accurately coding all gifts in the subledger (TFACT) and general ledger (WD) in accordance with donor intent and GAAP reporting for a portfolio of regions within the close schedule.  This includes monitoring bank activity, Lockbox, reviewing and approving cash, credit card, in-kind, stock and wire payments as well as pledges in TFACT, recording journal entries to our general ledger, and analyzing awards for compliance with restrictions and grant terms. 
  • Align with Planning and Analysis, Grants and Contracts and Accounts Payable teams on regional portfolio to provide seamless support to regions on monthly financial reporting and understanding their revenue numbers, and yearly planning.
  • Understand IRS regulations, fiscal restrictions and implementing these guidelines to ensure all of the organization and our regional partners abide by these requirements.
  • Work with our GDP Data and Operations team to ensure all revenue is accurate and complete from activity entered to TFACT through mass uploads (i.e. credit card transactions).
  • Execute on cyclical financial requests that occur throughout the year pertaining to our end of month reconciliations, annual audit, etc.
  • Continue to develop strong system knowledge with Workday and TFACT.
  • Continue to build accounting knowledge and general ledger reconciliation skills.

 Relationship Management and Communications (25%):

  • Communicate train, and work closely with regional and national partners to obtain all necessary documentation and information for the donations that we receive.
  • Respond to questions from regional data managers regarding gift processing in TFACT timely and accurately. 
  • Actively work to break down silos between Finance and Development teams that are stakeholders in our revenue streams by becoming an expert in both general ledger and development reporting on revenue.
  • Ensure that all important information from the Revenue Team is communicated out in a timely, digestible fashion and is tailored to our various partners.
  • Assist in creating, reviewing, and updating all documented policies and resources that are available both internally for the Revenue Team and externally for our partners.

 Special Projects (10%)

  • Assist Director, Revenue with smaller team and org-wide projects
  • Identify and solve for issues that arise within the scope of the Revenue Team internal operations.
  • Innovate new solutions to obstacles that our partners are facing to ensure alignment between our teams.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum two years of experience in accounting/finance related field. 
  • Non-profit revenue experience highly preferred
