The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Vanderbilt YMCA is seeking an experienced individual to provide leadership, management, and supervision to all Youth Sports, Youth Health and Summer Camp programming. The Youth and Sports Director will manage staff, budgets, program development, fund development, and community development, as well as the create strategic alliances with other youth serving agencies, while maintaining relationship with local schools. The Youth and Sports Director will implement and follow all YMCA of Greater New York Program Standards related to their department and will offer support to the Youth and Family Director as needed.
- Plan and create new and innovative programs that meet the needs of the community in keeping with the Branch priority objectives, YMCA core programs and strategic plan. Develop curriculum as needed.
- Direct all Youth Sports and Camp programs conducted at the Branch and off site.
- Conduct periodic evaluations of existing programs and develop improvement plans.
- Research community needs and recommend programming to address needs.
- Implement YMCA Core curriculum to all necessary programs.
- Monitor rooms and equipment for safety and purchase new equipment and program materials.
- Work with staff to ensure an emphasis on quality programming and services.
- Develop, attend, in and support with the planning of special events.
- Provide support and assistance where needed for other departments at Vanderbilt to provide overall Branch success.
- Prepare and successfully administer budgets related to Youth Sports and Camp.
- Hire, train, develop, and supervise part-time employees and volunteers.
- Prepare and monitor staff and volunteer schedules.
- Evaluate and document staff performance informally and formally throughout the program year.
- Provide assistance for the other Program Directors in the Youth and Family Department establishing service priorities in line with the team objectives, and in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Manage all aspects of communication with families within the department.
- Promote all programs to ensure maximum attendance.
- Work with the communication department to ensure signage and promotion for all department programs/activities.
- Act as a liaison and specialist to local government and community groups on behalf of the Vanderbilt YMCA.
- Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

- BA/BS in Education, Psychology, Sociology or related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience coordinating program-specific activities, preferably in an academic or recreational setting.
- Minimum of two years of staff management experience.
- Experience writing and facilitating curriculum.
- Experience in community outreach, program planning, implementation, and grant and proposal writing.
- Group Skills, Leadership Skills and Youth Development Experience.
- Knowledge of Budget and fiscal management
- Knowledge of Camp Minder and AS400 software.
- Certification and ability to train staff in multiple topics.
