Job Summary
The Manager of Prospect Research is a key position within the Major Gifts team and drives the processes around prospect identification, research and qualification. The position also manages and updates the processes around donor and prospect “moves management”. Over the next few years this role will take on more importance as the organization develops and implements a strategic growth plan around Major Gifts.

Responsibilities
- Develops short and long-term strategic plans for prospect development and research that align with fundraising priorities. Plans, implements and manages strategies to identify, rate, assign and track prospects with the capacity to make a major gift.
- Monitors progress toward fundraising goals to anticipate future needs. Designs and implements new tactics to guide fundraising priorities and needs.
- Develops clear individual donor profiles for Major and Planned Giving donors and prospects that enables the gifts officers to undertake effective qualification, engagement, cultivation and solicitation meetings and events.
- Oversees the development and administration of the “Moves Management” system currently in place for all donors and prospects in the Major Gifts portfolio.
- Segments, manipulates, and analyzes large data sets, coordinating with outside vendors to interpret and disseminate results to the major gifts, planned gifts, and direct response teams.
- Orients new hires and trains staff in research methodology and best practices.
- Manages comprehensive quarterly review of all major gift officer portfolios establishing and following clear guidelines, upgrading portfolios with new prospects and downgrading donors through the cultivation pipeline lifecycle.
- Conducts research screens on corporate entities based on organization-wide requests, following AIUSA’s guidelines.
- Maintains relationship with various vendors and decides which research tools to use annually.
- Using Revolution Online (ROI) CRM or other software such as Tableau, participates in distribution of regular management reports as needed that track the general quality of prospect and potential prospect portfolios, and performance metrics.
- In partnership with the Director of Development Operations, participates in the administration and configuration of the prospect management components of the ROI database.
- Performs related duties, as required.

- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in prospect management, research and analysis, required.
- Nonprofit experience, preferred.
Skills
- Excellent computer skills: internet search engines and advanced search techniques, fundraising software, data retrieval services (e.g. LexisNexis, Foundation Directory, Wealth Engine, NOZA, etc.), Tableau, MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel, in particular). Experience working with a relational database a necessity, preferably Revolution Online (ROI).
- Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data (including property records, D&B, SEC filings, IRS 990s, etc.), and for synthesizing complex information from multiple sources;
- Demonstrated ability to develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organizational goals, including data mining, sophisticated constituent database queries, etc.;
- Ability to provide clear, concise information on donors/prospects in the form of comprehensive profiles and event briefings for key staff;
- Strong understanding of the donor/prospect pipeline management;
- Participates at an appropriate level in professional associations such as APRA, AFP and/or CASE in order to increase knowledge and skills and stay abreast of industry trends and concerns;
- Comfortable with various communication styles;
