As a Director, Full-Stack Developer Regional Support you will be responsible for providing technology solutions for Teach For America’s regional sites, as well as cross functionality with our national site. This is a new role that has been created to meet the needs of a new digital strategy that has a user-first approach to developing communications for Teach For America’s core constituencies of prospects, corps members, and alumni and to support the Regional Communications team. This role will be instrumental in rebuilding the regional subdomains to ensure they meet both user needs and Teach For America regional priorities. As part of the Web team, you will have the opportunity to bring to life the ambitious digital goals of a modern, complex, national, not-for-profit at the forefront of educational reform.

The Director, Regional Full-Stack Developer Support will report to the Managing Director of Web and collaborate closely with Back-End Developers, Quality Assurance team members, Business Analysts, Front-End Developers, and other team members to build web 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conduct development tasks as necessary across all of the Teach For America’s web ecosystem under the direction of the Managing Director of Web
  • Work with members of the user experience team and web team to continuously improve the user experience of Teach For America’s regional web properties
  • Develop custom Drupal themes and modules using modern web technology and packages
  • Perform everyday coding changes using PHP, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, and jQuery
  • Leverage modern development principles and libraries to ensure web platforms are crafted for mobile, touch, and traditional interfaces
  • Help drive the improvement of Teach For America’s content management system (Drupal) and related tools
  • Help the web team reach its goal of achieving high end visual design and functionality on Teach For America’s web properties, understanding the ultimate goal of increasing the volume of applications, donations, and other support for the organization and our mission
  • Advocate for and operate under an agile/Lean UX environment with confidence
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience

  • 6-8 years of experience in Drupal and PHP, including experience working in Drupal 7 with custom theming as well as with key contributed modules, custom Views, Panels, Chaos Tools, Features and multi-site configurations
  • Knowledge of coding standards-compliant XHTML/HTML5 and CSS3 and familiarity with SASS, JavaScript and jQuery
  • Experience with ApacheSolr, CLI, SQL and RESTful Services preferred

Skills 

  • An understanding of general web development libraries, packages, and methodologies including release cycle management, continuous integration, and quality assurance processes (eg. Git, Grunt, Jenkins, Jira)
  • A passion for usability and design best practices across desktop and mobile platforms
  • The ability to be an influential voice for best practices in web development, user experience, design, and technology and be passionate about the role user experience can play in providing value to users
  • Customer-service oriented; thrives collaborating with others to achieve shared goals
  • Passionate about educational equity as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
  • Able to think big, generate ideas and drive solutions to complex problems in a fast- paced, deadline-driven environment
  • A strong writer and skilled oral communicator
  • Able to maintain a sense of possibility in the face of obstacles, and balance both short- and long-term results

Work Demands

  • National travel for in-person meetings will vary throughout the year, but is estimated to include an average of 1 trip per month; some weekend and evening work expected
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
