Founded in 1852, the YMCA of Greater New York, also known as the “Y”, serves half a million New Yorkers each year through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. In addition to our 23 branches located across the five boroughs of New York City, we own 1,000 acres of upstate New York woodlands, where we operate three camps committed to fostering personal growth in children.
We are seeking a qualified individual to manage our 42,000 square foot Chinatown YMCA facility plus six off-site locations. The Chinatown YMCA serves a diverse population of over 30,000 people of all ages throughout the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The Branch offers a range of programs from early childhood to youth and teens to older adults, including healthy lifestyles programs; early childhood classes; after-school programs; instructional classes; active senior programs plus a multi-lingual information resource and referral center for immigrant families. Our Houston Center has a full service health and wellness facility including a swimming pool, gym, cardio center plus weight training.
The Executive Director would be responsible for the overall operation of the Branch including, 27 full-time and 161 part-time employees, 3,000 adult member units and a budget of $6.4 million. S/he would continue to develop and strengthen community wide relationships with donors, plus various service organizations. Also, the Executive Director would be expected to aggressively support the Chinatown YMCA’s strategic goals. Qualified applicants must have experience working with a Board of Managers, supervising government contracts, management of fund raising campaigns, strategic planning, staff leadership/development plus a proven record of successful fiscal management.
- Direct and provide leadership to the Board of Managers, its committees and staff in interpreting policies, strategies and plans. Serves as the staff officer to the Board of Managers and implements its plans, policies and decisions.
- Develop and control the annual operating, government and capital budget consistent with the guidelines set up by the YMCA of Greater NY.
- Act as chief officer of the branch and responsible for the recruitment, selection, development, training, supervision and evaluation of a highly competent staff.
- Create and maintain high quality programing and service that meets the current and future needs of the community with financial, human and capital resources available.
- Provide primary leadership in designing and directing all branch fundraising programs, including annual support, endowment and capital campaign.
- Develop and maintain partnerships in the community with business and civic leaders, government and other select organizations and agencies.
- Create and maintain long range plans for the branch involving Board members, committee members and community leaders.
- Manage the facilities and property of the branch and off-sites to ensure high standards of maintenance and cleanliness and requirements of codes and laws are met.
