Under the direction of the National Director of Donor Relations and Special Projects, the Director of Special Projects, New York, directs all fundraising events in the New York region, including large and small-scale fundraising events, cultivation and stewardship events. NRDC has a track-record of producing highly successfully and high-profile events in the New York area with the support of a robust community of donors, trustees, and other strategic partners. The Director will also participate in the planning and execution of national events, as needed. In addition, the Director oversees regional donor engagement activities like volunteer leadership groups, travel programs, and other special projects as needed and in accordance with both the national and regional strategic framework.
- Oversee a team of 3 events professionals.
- Direct all fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events in New York and the northeast region.
- Develop annual events calendar in concert with major gifts and donor relations goals and strategies.
- Liaise with executive leadership, trustees, donors and others in the execution of events and special projects.
- Participate in the planning and execution of national events, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- At least 7 years direct experience.
- Managerial experience preferred.
- Events management expertise required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning and project management skills.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of business contracts and negotiations.
- Vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of the best practices in Development, especially as it relates to event and special project management.
- Budget management skills.
- Will work with a wide range of communications and event travel vendors.
- Will have a dotted reporting line relationship to the Eastern Director of Major Gifts and will need to proactively incorporate perspectives of both the National Director and Regional Director into planning and manage communications accordingly.
