NRDC is the country’s most effective environmental action group with more than 2.4 million Members and online activists. Its staff of nearly 500 attorneys, scientists, and policy analysts works to protect the environment through courtroom action, legislative campaigns, and grassroots online activism.
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and creative individual to work closely with other digital advocacy and fundraising team members, other Development staff, and our consultants to develop, launch, and manage digital acquisition efforts that bring in new leads for our digital advocacy, membership and donor efforts.
Candidates should have a proven track record building email lists and acquiring new donors and activists through digital channels. You’re intimately familiar with search engine marketing, social media advertising on Facebook and elsewhere, display advertising, incentive and rewards sites like MyPoints, list chaperones and co-registration campaigns, CPM outlets like TheNation.com, CPA vendors like Care2.com and DailyKos. You’re continually searching for the next strategy or tactic that will help acquire strong leads or donors for reasonable costs. You know what kind of creative works for acquisition, what new leads and donors need to receive once converting, and understand what a decent cost per lead, cost per donor, and ROI looks like for a large advocacy organization like NRDC.
You are also comfortable leading data driven programs, and are ready to help our team expand their data-driven decision making and digital reporting.
The position reports to the Senior Director of Digital Advocacy and Fundraising. The position is based in NRDC’s New York office.
- Leads NRDC’s digital acquisition efforts for both warm leads and activists and donors.
- Acts as the main point of contact for digital advertising vendors, taking point on search engine marketing, display advertising, and social media advertising.
- Creates plans to grow NRDC’s email and donor list with both paid and unpaid efforts.
- Manages and executes partnerships with other nonprofits and corporations to run list chaperones, co-registrations, and other incentivized or cause-related acquisition campaigns.
- Works with NRDC’s digital staff to coordinate acquisition with social media, web editorial, and existing fundraising and advocacy campaigns so that new supporters bolsters other digital efforts.
- Manages ROI reporting to continually monitor success and efficiency of the program.
- Oversees onboarding of new acquisition to drive higher levels of engagement and convert to donors.
- Assist campaigners in structuring digital advocacy campaigns to maximize acquisition and recruitment.
- Develop offline acquisition strategies to convert event attendees to email acquisitions.
- Assist in developing strategies for recruiting new demographic audiences.
- Drafts and edits campaign plans, writes email, website and advertising copy, tests offers, incentives, gift handles, and other tactics to optimize recruitment and conversion.
- 3-5 years of digital acquisition or advertising experience with political, advocacy and/or nonprofit organizations.
- Experience recruiting email subscribers, donors, and monthly donors through search, Facebook, display, and various other paid ad platforms.
- Experience developing partnerships and running unpaid recruitment efforts through list chaperones, co-registrations, and other online content sharing with other organizations.
- Excellent communication (written & verbal) skills.
- Proven record of accomplishment of meeting deadlines and deliverables.
- Thrives in a campaign style environment with "rapid fire" deadlines and responses.
Other Attributes:
- Advanced knowledge of social media, email marketing and production of digital materials (written, graphical and video).
- Advanced knowledge of organizing, issue advocacy campaigns and/or political campaigns.
- Broad experience in managing social media- Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Snap(chat), Instagram.
- Ability to handle multiple "priority" projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to gain buy-in from multiple parties in a collaborative environment.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Possess solid project management skills.
