We’re looking for a passionate, driven and experienced community manager to fill this critical role on our growing social media team. As NRDC’s Community Manager, you’ll have a hands-on role in inspiring our community of supporters to take action. We need someone who can identify opportunities and innovative ways to communicate awareness and solutions to the world’s toughest environmental problems.
Deep knowledge our issues and work is a plus, while an expertise with the social platforms is a must. You’ll manage our community outreach on all of NRDC’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and Medium.
The position reports to the Social Media Director-NY and as part of NRDC’s Communications Department, you’ll collaborate with our campaigns, marketing, and media relations teams to help motivate activists, achieve policy goals, grow membership, and increase our reach and influence.
- Develop and execute strategies for maximizing audience engagement on all of NRDC’s social media channels
- Develop and execute strategies for user-generated content (UGC) campaigns for social audiences
- Manage and moderate comment threads, responding to and engaging with our digital audience
- Oversee social listening to gather feedback, comments, questions, and complaints on NRDC channels. Then work with various departments within NRDC to share this feedback in productive ways
- Help develop and implement “Community Guidelines” for all of NRDC’s social media channels
- Collaborate with membership and advocacy teams in producing and executing Q&A documents for social media
- Help plan, produce and host Facebook Live video interviews
- Identify opportunities for community engagement, such as Twitter chats, Reddit AMAs, Instagram & Snapchat Stories, SMS and UGC content
- Support social media editors in regular content creation when needed
- Support social media editors in moderating, interacting with, and amplifying staff and program social accounts
- Monitor and engage with celebrity supporters and other influencers
- 2-3 years of experience in a social media or engagement role, preferably at a news organization, political campaign, nimble nonprofit, or agency that requires rapid response capability
- Proficiency in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Medium and LinkedIn
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to adopt a “voice” of NRDC, while also incorporating personality and authenticity
- Strong strategic and tactical editorial skills
- Hands-on experience with social media tools such as Google Analytics, Chartbeat, CrowdTangle, Bitly, Sprout Social, Hootsuite Enterprise, or Tweetdeck
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and shifting requests
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, organize time, and identify resources for projects as needed
